Ahead of the inaugural WTCR Race of Alsace GrandEst, here’s a reminder of how things work in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup. Same Qualifying format but allocation of points tweakedThe three-phase Qualifying (Q1, Q2, Q3) elimination format remains unchanged but how points are awarded is all-new for 2022.

Defending the title harder than winning it says Ekström

CUPRA EKS driver Mattias Ekström entered the first season of the FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup as the defending ETCR title winner through his glory in PURE ETCR. The Swedish driver, after the five races held so far this season, is in second place in the drivers’ standings, just 14 points behind team-mate Adrien Tambay. Looking ahead to the rest of the season, Mattias says he will give his all against the tough rivalry he has encountered this year in FIA ETCR, from his own team-mates Tambay and Tom Blomqvist to former team-mate now driving for Hyundai Motorsport N, Mikel Azcona and Romeo Ferraris driver Maxime Martin.

Berthon braced for second home WTCR race

Nathanaël Berthon starts his second home WTCR − FIA World Touring Car Cup event of the season at Anneau du Rhin this weekend determined not to be outshone by local heroes Yann Ehrlacher and Yvan Muller. Berthon, who drives an Audi RS 3 LMS for Comtoyou DHL Team Audi Sport, is one of three French aces competing in the WTCR in 2022.

Former ‘tourist’ Muller aims to compete for real at home in WTCR

Yvan Muller will be a ‘tourist’ no more when he competes in his home rounds of the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup this weekend. The Alsace driver, who holds the record for the most FIA World Touring Car Championship race wins and titles, is preparing to line up for Cyan Racing Lynk & Co at the inaugural WTCR Race of Alsace GrandEst, which takes place at Circuit de l’Anneau du Rhin from August 5-7.

Huff solo no more in WTCR as Nagy returns to action

Rob Huff remains the driver to beat in the WTCR Trophy − and a contender for outright title honours − despite a tough WTCR Race of Italy weekend aboard his Zengő Motorsport CUPRA Leon Competición. But having raced at Autodromo Vallelunga Piero Taruffi as the Hungarian team’s lone representative following a hand injury to team-mate Dániel Nagy, Huff will head to Anneau du Rhin boosted by the news that fit-again Nagy is set to return to action.

Azcona wary of WTCR rivals closing fast

Mikel Azcona heads to WTCR Race of Alsace GrandEst wary of the increased threat posed by his title-chasing rivals. Azcona is the Goodyear #FolllowTheLeader with a 36-point margin ahead of the WTCR’s first visit to Anneau du Rhin this weekend.
