Carlos Sainz Takes Pole For Mexico City Grand Prix Ahead Of Max Verstappen

Carlos Sainz seized pole position for Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix with a consummate performance for Ferrari in Saturday's qualifying session, outpacing Red Bull's defending champion Max Verstappen. The Spaniard, who leaves the team at the end of the season, clocked one minute and 15.946 seconds to beat series leader and three time champion Verstappen, whose first and fastest lap in the top 10 shoot-out was deleted, by 0.225 seconds. This left McLaren's Lando Norris, who is 57 points behind Verstappen in the drivers' title race, to take third ahead of Charles Leclerc in the second Ferrari and the Williams of George Russell and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton.

Carlos Sainz Insists Leaving Ferrari Does Not Mean Farewell To Winning

Carlos Sainz believes his days as a race-winning driver will not be over when he leaves Ferrari for Williams next season. The 30-year-old Spaniard, who has won three times with Ferrari, told reporters on Thursday ahead of this weekend's Mexico Grand Prix that he is hungry for more and believes he can chase victories in future. "Nothing would make me happier than achieving something like that before the end of the year," he said, referring to the prospect of another win for Ferrari before he is replaced by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Mercedes Admit 'Issues' After Lewis Hamilton's Texas Trouble

A frustrated Toto Wolff admitted his Mercedes team are struggling with "issues" on Sunday after seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton crashed out on the fifth lap of the United States Grand Prix. He referred to car problems and said Hamilton's exit was "one hundred percent the car" as he was "not even pushing at that stage...and Lewis Hamilton doesn't lose a car on lap five like this." Wolff also spoke out about the inconsistencies of stewards' decisions that on Sunday included a five-second penalty for George Russell who finished a fine sixth after starting from the pit lane.

Max Verstappen Ends Long Wait For Pole At US Grand Prix Sprint Qualifying

Max Verstappen swept to a convincing pole position for Saturday's sprint race at the United States Grand Prix in a fast and frantic qualifying session on Friday. It was the first time in 12 events since the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in May that the three-time world champion had secured any kind of pole position. Verstappen clocked a best lap in one minute and 32.833 seconds to beat Mercedes' George Russell by 0.012 seconds with Charles Leclerc taking third place on the grid for Ferrari.

Max Verstappen Says 'Silly' Swearing Row Could Hasten F1 Exit

World champion Max Verstappen on Sunday described his punishment for swearing as "silly" and threatened the row could hasten his exit from Formula One. The Dutchman finished second to Lando Norris at the Singapore Grand Prix but the saga over him being slapped with a community service order continued to dominate fallout in the paddock. "These kinds of things definitely decide my future as well, when you can't be yourself or you have to deal with these kinds of silly things," the 26-year-old said.

Mclaren's Lando Norris Sets Singapore Pace As Struggling Max Verstappen 15th

McLaren's Lando Norris went fastest Friday to lead Ferrari pair Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in second practice for the Singapore Grand Prix with world champion Max Verstappen struggling to 15th. The session could not have panned out much better for Englishman Norris, who trails Verstappen by 59 points at the top of the drivers' standings.
