Greater Manchester has been placed under a rare red weather warning for extreme heat as temperatures are set to soar across the region on Monday. The warning, the first of its kind, covers a large area of England from London up to Manchester and Yorkshire and will be in place until Tuesday night.
The 10 Greater Manchester councils are gearing up their response to the red warning for exceptional heat early next week, which could see the mercury burst through 40C barrier in the region. The Met office, along with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), has upgraded its warning for Monday and Tuesday next week for much of the country, including Greater Manchester from amber to red, warning of 'extreme heat'.
A warning for extreme heat is in place from today with the UK set to be baked in a heatwave. A Met Office amber warning is in place for much of England including Greater Manchester with temperatures in the region today expected to hit 29C.
