Fulham end Liverpool unbeaten league run to delay title party

LONDON: Liverpool slumped to just their second Premier League defeat of the season as Fulham struck three times in 14 first-half minutes to boost their own European ambitions with a 3-2 win on Sunday. Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at Everton on Saturday left Liverpool needing just 11 points from their final eight games to secure a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title. Arne Slot’s men were unbeaten in 26 league games and looked set to take another step toward the title when Alexis Mac Allister’s stunning strike opened the scoring. But poor defending allowed Ryan Sessegnon, Alex Iwobi and Rodrigo Muniz to turn the game around for Fulham. Liverpool still enjoy an 11-point lead at the top with seven games remaining. Victory lifts Fulham to eighth and within three points of the top five, which is almost certain to be enough for a place in next season’s Champions League. Despite a stellar first season under Slot, Liverpool have shown signs of slowing down in recent weeks and came off the rails in west London. After a Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain and League Cup final defeat to Newcastle, Liverpool edged out Everton 1-0 in a feisty Merseyside derby on Wednesday to get back to winning ways. But the Reds appear to be running out of steam after challenging in four competitions for most of the season. Mac Allister’s blistering long range strike into the top corner after 14 minutes gave Liverpool the dream start. The Reds wilted in the Craven Cottage sunshine, with a series of individual errors leading to Fulham’s three quickfire goals. Curtis Jones, deputising out of position at right-back, failed to control Andreas Pereira’s cross and the ball fell kindly for Sessegnon to fire home his third goal in five games. Andy

Harry Kane Eyes Peter Shilton Record As Caps Pile Up In England's 'New Era'

England captain Harry Kane believes he can become his country's longest-serving international and cap his career with World Cup glory in 2026. The 31-year-old striker made his 105th appearance in Monday's 3-0 qualifying win over Latvia, also finding the net for his 71st international goal. That game was Kane's 105th in England colours to stand just 20 games behind goalkeeper Peter Shilton's all-time national record. "It's definitely there. I've made it clear I want to play for England as long as possible," said Kane.

England Sink Latvia To Extend Thomas Tuchel's Winning Start

England extended Thomas Tuchel's 100 percent start to his reign as Reece James' first international goal inspired a 3-0 win against Latvia in Monday's World Cup qualifier. Tuchel's side once again laboured to break down defensive opposition for long periods at Wembley. But three days after struggling to beat Albania 2-0 in Tuchel's first game in charge, England eventually mustered enough composure and quality to kill off 140th-ranked Latvia. James broke the deadlock with a superb free-kick late in the first half as the Chelsea right-back made an impressive first England start since September 2022.

Thomas Tuchel Relieved As 'Lucky' Jude Bellingham Avoids Red Card In Laboured England Win

Thomas Tuchel admitted Jude Bellingham was "lucky" to escape a red card as England "struggled" to secure a 3-0 win against minnows Latvia on Monday. Just two days after claiming Bellingham can be "very emotional" and needed to control his mood on the pitch, the Real Madrid star was fortunate not to be sent off in the World Cup qualifier at Wembley. After being booked in the first half, Bellingham avoided a second yellow yard despite crunching into a crude challenge on Raivis Jurkovskis soon after the interval. England boss Tuchel responded by sending on Phil Foden to replace the midfielder moments later to ensure he was not given his marching orders.
