ECB announces central contracts for 2022-23 season; Liam Livingstone moves up, Jason Roy demoted

England white-ball veteran Jason Roy's struggles with form in the ongoing season have resulted in him being downgraded to an incremental deal while the country's T20 star Liam Livingstone has earned his first full contract in the new central contract offers for 2022-23 season announced by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Tuesday. These contracts are in effect from October 1 onwards. "The England and Wales Cricket Board has announced the Central Contract offers for England Men's international cricket for the year from 1 October 2022," said a statement from the board.

Jos Buttler Leads From Front As England Target T20 World Cup Glory

Jos Buttler is back in his all-action role as captain, opening batsman and wicketkeeper as power-packed England prepare to launch their bid for Twenty20 World Cup glory. The white ball star missed his side's recent 4-3 series win in Pakistan with a calf injury and in his absence Alex Hales and Phil Salt impressed at the top of the batting order, with Salt taking the gloves. But Buttler appeared to end speculation over whether he might relinquish his wicket-keeping role or drop down the batting order in the first game of a three-match series against Australia on Sunday.

"He Certainly Impeded The Bowler": Australia Great's Take On Matthew Wade Obstruction Incident

Matthew Wade sparked controversy with his action on the field in Australia's first T20I against England in Perth on Sunday. While batting at the crease, Wade mishit England pacer Mark Wood's delivery in the air and then obstructed the bowler from taking the catch. England didn't appeal against it but Wade couldn't escape the aftermath of his action. Several cricket pundits, including those from Australia and England, put forward their views on the incident. Former Australia batter Mike Hussey, who is also the coaching consultant for England, is among the ones to comment.

T20 World Cup: History Beckons For Title-Holders Australia

Australia have a golden opportunity to create history and become the first back-to-back Twenty20 world champions, but they face a formidable challenge led by India and England. Aaron Finch's men enjoy the advantage of being the only winners of cricket's shortest format to have a crack at defending the title on home territory since the T20 World Cup started in 2007. With a star-studded line-up spearheaded by David Warner, Pat Cummins and Glenn Maxwell, the Australians also boast all but one of the team that won the tournament last year in the UAE.

Jos Buttler Explains Why He Didn't Appeal Against Matthew Wade For 'Obstructing The Field'

The first T20I between Australia and England at Perth saw some breathtaking action, with both teams scoring 200 runs. Though England emerged triumphant in the match, there's one particular incident that they won't be happy about. Australian wicket-keeper batter Matthew Wade seemed to have 'obstructed the field' while trying to prevent Mark Wood from taking the catch. While Wade seemed to have been at fault, England skipper Jos Buttler decided not to appeal.

AUS vs ENG: Alex Hales Shines As England Claim Opening T20I Against Australia

England went one up in their three-match Twenty20 series against Australia with a thrilling eight-run win in Perth on Sunday. After Australia were set an imposing 209 for victory, the home side at one stage looked like pulling off an unlikely win on the back of a fine 73 from David Warner and some big hitting from Marcus Stoinis. But some inspired fast bowling in the latter stages from Mark Wood (3-34) and Sam Curran (2-35) saw England home as Australia finished their 20 overs eight runs short.

Watch: Matthew Wade Blocks England Bowler From Taking Catch, Sparks Controversy

There was controversy during the first T20I between Australia and England as Matthew Wade seemingly blocked Mark Wood from taking a return catch in Perth. In the 17th over of Australia's chase of 209, Wade top-edged a pull off Wood onto his helmet and the ball ballooned straight up in the air. The England pacer ran in towards the striker's end to try and take a return catch, but Wade, turning back towards the crease, extended his arm and restricted Wood from getting to the ball, which landed safely.
