NEW DELHI : India's Jay Shah will succeed New Zealander Greg Barclay as chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) later this year, the governing body said on Tuesday.
Jay Shah, the current honorary secretary of the BCCI, has been elected unopposed as the Independent Chair of the ICC, and will assume his position on 1 December, 2024. On August 20, it was announced that current ICC Chair Greg Barclay would not seek a third term and would step down at the conclusion of his tenure in November. Shah, who was the sole nominee for the chairmanship, emphasised his commitment to expanding the global reach and popularity of cricket, especially with its upcoming inclusion in the LA 2028 Olympics.
Pep Guardiola cannot rule out any new additions at Manchester City this week, but any first team signings are unlikely before Friday's transfer deadline.
India's Jay Shah was on Tuesday elected unopposed as the next Independent Chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and will be taking over from Greg Barclay in December this year. Shah, who has been serving as the Honorary Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) since October 2019 and Chair of the Asian Cricket Council since January 2021, will assume this prestigious role on December 1, 2024. Shah was the sole nominee for the chairmanship after current Chair Barclay decided not to seek a third term.
Jury is still out on where Jay Shah would be placed when India's cricket administrators are judged for their contribution to the game but what would remain undeniable is the no fuss manner in which he made space for himself in the corridors of power first nationally and now globally. The 35-year-old was elected unopposed as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the youngest ever to reach this position. Those who have seen the workings of BCCI, during his time as Board secretary, are not surprised by the rise and vouch for his ability to connect with players at a personal level.
The Prime Minister is set to warn that Britain will 'get worse before it gets better' in his first major speech since taking office.
Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley has rubbished reports suggesting that he might become the next BCCI secretary if Jay Shah is elected chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). There have been reports that the current BCCI secretary Jay Shah is likely to be appointed as the next chairman of ICC as Greg Barclay has decided not to seek another tenure as chief of ICC.
