KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel To Play Second India A Match Against Australia A

Senior batter KL Rahul and reserve keeper Dhruv Jurel will be flying to Australia for the second 'unofficial Test' between India A and Australia A starting November 7 at the MCG to give them some game time before the first game at Perth from November 22. Rahul and Jurel were part of the Indian squad for the New Zealand series but while the former played the opening game before being dropped from the playing XI, Jurel, who made his debut against England earlier this year, hasn't got a game since Rishabh Pant's comeback.

Rishabh Pant who missed a part of the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru due to a knee injury, is all but set to feature for India in the second match at Pune. India's assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate, speaking to media ahead of the second Test of the series, confirmed that though Pant's appearance in the match isn't 100% certain, he is looking on course to make the XI for the match. There were suggestions of Dhruv Jurel replacing Pant behind the stumps for the match. But, it seems like the southpaw is all set to get the nod despite the recent injury.

Indian cricket team wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant suffered a knee injury during the first Test match against New Zealand in Bengaluru. While Pant did not keep the wickets at all following the injury, he did come out to bat in the second innings and scored a valiant 99. However, with the second Test starting on Thursday in Pune, questions remain over his injury and his possible participation. According to a report by the Indian Express, the selectors have left the decision to the team management to take a call on Pant ahead of the match. Dhruv Jurel kept wickets in Pant's absence in Bengaluru and he will be the possible replacement in case Pant is excluded.

He did not take the field on Day 3 as Dhruv Jurel returned to keep the gloves during New Zealand.

Middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan, wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel and pacer Yash Dayal will be be released from the Indian team for the Irani Cup if they are not selected in the playing XI for the second Test against Bangladesh, starting September 27 in Kanpur. The BCCI on Tuesday announced the Rest of India squad, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, which will take on reigning Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai in Lucknow from October 1-5. "Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal have been selected in the Rest of India squad and their participation is subject to them not being involved in the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur," said the BCCI statement on Tuesday.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Tuesday that Sarfaraz Khan will be released to play for Mumbai in the Irani Cup 2024 if he is not included in the playing XI for the second Test match against Bangladesh starting Friday. There have been a lot of conversation regarding Sarfaraz's future after he was not involved in the first Test match and BCCI have now provided a concrete answer. "Sarfaraz Khan who has been retained in the Team India squad for the 2nd Test, will be released to represent the Mumbai team subject to him not being involved in the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur," the BCCI release said.

India's squad for the first Test against Bangladesh was announced on Sunday. The first Test of the two-match series will kick-start from September 19 in Chennai. The squad came with many surprises as wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will be returning to Test cricket with this series. Pant faced a horrific road accident in December 2022 and is yet to return to the longest format for India. Apart from this, young pacer Yash Dayal also earned his maiden Test call-up for the series.
