Batter S Meghana and all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar have tested positive for COVID-19 and stayed back in the country ahead of the side's opener against Australia in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Friday. The India squad left on Sunday morning for Birmingham without the two players. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had earlier confirmed that one member of the touring party tested positive. The squad trained at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) ahead of the Games. Women's cricket is making its debut at the Commonwealth Games.

Ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Games, Indian men's boxing team coach Dharmendra Yadav expressed his confidence about winning many gold medals in the prestigious event at Birmingham. The Indian Boxing contingent comprising 12 boxers which includes four women and eight men arrived here at Birmingham to compete in Commonwealth Games 2022. In CWG 2018, which was held in Australia, the Indian boxing team clinched nine medals. Out of which, three were gold, three were silver, and three were bronze.

With Commonwealth Games 2022, just around the corner, Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen said that he is looking forward to being a part of his first senior multi-sporting event. The Indian badminton contingent arrived at Birmingham on Monday for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. "I feel excited to be a part of the Commonwealth Games 2022. I have seen in the past how these games are and how important they are for India. I am really looking forward to playing my first game. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Tuesday advised the country's contingent taking part in the upcoming Commonwealth Games to curtail their public appearances and stay indoors in view of the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.
