Cricket World Cup - "I Was At War": Shakib Al Hasan's Explosive Reply On 'Timed Out' Dismissal of Angelo Mathews

For the next few days, one term that will be spoken about a lot is 'timed out'. Angelo Mathews and Shakib Al Hasan got a permanent place in the cricket history as the duo was involved in one of the rarest dismissals in cricket, that too in a Cricket World Cup match. Former Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews was given 'timed out' - for the first time in the history of international cricket -  with rival captain Shakib Al Hasan appealing for it. The decision left the cricket world divided.

Bangladesh Beat Sri Lanka At Cricket World Cup After Angelo Mathews 'Timed Out' Row

Sri Lanka batsman Angelo Mathews became the first player to be given "timed out" in the 146-year history of international cricket on Monday in a fiery World Cup clash won by Bangladesh. Chasing 280 for victory, Bangladesh rode on a 169-run stand between Najmul Hasan Shanto (90) and skipper Shakib Al Hasan (82) to reach their target with three wickets and 53 balls to spare. The result sealed Sri Lanka's exit from the semi-final race but Mathews' dismissal overshadowed the result after he was adjudged "timed out" for taking longer than the regulation two minutes to take strike when he arrived at the crease to bat.

Steve Smith Picks Two Tough Opponents As Australia Look To Seal Cricket World Cup 2023 Semis Berth

Steve Smith on Monday hoped Australia are peaking at the right time given they have five wins on the trot in the Cricket World Cup 2023 and are on the cusp of joining India and South Africa as the third team in the semifinals. While India are set to finish at the top of the points table, South Africa are currently placed second having qualified for the final four. Australia can join the two teams if they win their upcoming clash against Afghanistan, to be played here on Tuesday. "You do want to be peaking at the right time in the end, but obviously you need to do enough to make the semifinals. I think that would be the beauty of it if we were able to get there," Smith told the media before Australia's training session at the Wankhede Stadium. "You know, we had a rough start, we lost two games and we have gradually, I guess, progressed as we have gone along and there are still areas we can work on," said Smith, adding that even though all-rounders Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell are back to training, it remains to be seen if they get a nod for the contest on Tuesday.
