The singer and rising star Kaya Byinshii is playing a key part in the country's surge of creative energy. She examines her Rwandan identity through the new song, "The colour of blood", which she performs for us in the vibrant neighbourhood of Nyamirambo.
Also on the programme, we meet a champion of Rwanda's female artists: Kakizi Jemima, whose exhibitions explore taboo social issues such as teen pregnancy, gender-based violence and mental health. She is the curator of a group exhibition of Rwandan women artists called "Fierce Femmes", which is on at the Brulhart gallery in Geneva in April.
We also meet the theatre director Dorcy Rugamba, who lost most of his family in the genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda. In the years since, he has created numerous plays about the subject – the first was called "Rwanda 94", 25 years ago. He talks to arts24 about his new arts festival in Kigali and his book "Hewa Rwanda", published by JC Lattès.
