Delano Potgieter's five-wicket haul propelled MI Cape Town to humble the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape in a 97-run win in Thursday's SA20 opener at St George's Park.
India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja took to his Instagram story to share a picture that has left the internet guessing. Jadeja put a photo of his Test jersey on the social media platform and the post is now getting widely circulated on X, formerly Twitter. While many of the fans are asking what that post meant, some assumed that Jadeja has called time on his Test career. "Any Hint," was one of the comments on X, while a fan wrote, "Happy Retirement Jaddu." Notably, the spin-bowling all-rounder retired from T20I cricket post India's World Cup title victory in June last year. He, however, remains active in Test cricket and ODIs.
Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir is under the scanner following back-to-back Test series losses against New Zealand and Australia. Gambhir has endured a rough start as coach, and now his tactics have been brutally called out by his former India teammate Mohammad Kaif. In a video shared on social media, Kaif goes on a rant about the mistakes he felt that Gambhir had made during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, stating that Gambhir has not been up to the mark tactically.
There has been a lot of chatter around Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's future following India's disastrous loss in the Test series against Australia. Both star batters failed to score big and their performances resulted in massive criticism from both fans as well as experts. The situation was so bad that media reports claimed that there were conversations about not involving them in the future Test series. However, former Indian cricket team star Manoj Tiwary believes that head coach Gautam Gambhir will not be able to drop either Rohit or Virat and added that the decision will completely be their own.
Australia's interim captain Steven Smith expects a "bright future" for young Sam Konstas after witnessing his explosive display in the Boxing Day Test against India. In front of a sold-out crowd, Konstas walked alongside Usman Khawaja to open for Australia against a proven Indian pace express. A mixed set of emotions took over the MCG when Konstas fended off his first couple of deliveries. But all it took was one shot to change the dynamics of the entire situation. The sold-out crowd, along with those glued to their TV screens, struggled to believe what Konstas had achieved.
Pakistan has started its preparations for next year's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka by launching a player's improvement, scouting and grooming programme called 'strike force', which will begin in Lahore from January 13. Initially the programme, headed by former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq, was to focus on scouting for young talent with the potential to develop into power-hitters to suit the demands of the shortest format of the game. "Initially that was the idea, but, due to logistical challenges we decided to launch the strike force programme by holding a 90-day specialised camp for 25 players who have either already played for Pakistan, done well in domestic or under-19 level or in T20 leagues in the country," Abdullah Khurrum, who heads the PCB's domestic cricket department, said.
The recently-concluded Test series between India and Australia had its fair share of controversies with a number of them revolving around the Indian cricket team dressing room. With India losing the series 3-1 and failing to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years, there were many reports of a rift in the team and skipper Rohit Sharma's lack of form did not help matters. A report in the Indian Express claimed that a senior player, who called himself "Mr. Fix-It" pitched himself as an interim captain. Former India star Robin Uthappa took to social media to criticise the unnamed cricketer for taking a selfish stand. In a recent interview, he broke his silence on the rant and explained what he felt about the matter.
