Cricket Australia (CA) says it will hold «confidential discussions» with Justin Langer about his future as national men's coach following a marathon board meeting on Friday.
From COVID-19 disruptions to allegations that he has tried to influence selectors to criticism that not enough has been done for women's cricket during his tenure, Sourav Ganguly has endured a challenging 26 months as BCCI President. But in an exclusive interview with PTI, the former India captain not just rejected the accusations thrown at him but also offered a gentle reminder to his critics -- much before becoming the BCCI boss, he was a celebrated India cricketer and played in a whopping 424 international matches, 113 of them Tests.
Cricket Australia (CA) on Friday confirmed that the Australia men's cricket team will tour Pakistan for the first time in 24 years later this year in March-April. Australia last toured Pakistan in 1998 when the Mark Taylor-led side won the three-match Test series 1-0. Australia and Pakistan will play three Tests, as many One-Day Internationals, and a one-off T20 International. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and CA shared the revised scheduled of the tour, with the Test series set to begin with the first game in Rawalpindi.
Rohit Sharma starts his full-time ODI tenure on Sunday as his team play the West Indies in their 1,000th one-day international, the first side ever to reach the milestone. The encounter at the world's biggest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad is the first of a three-match series but will be played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic. India passed 500,000 deaths from the virus on Friday, although infection rates in the current Omicron outbreak have slowed in recent days.
Ajit Agarkar reckons the biggest challenge for India's new white-ball skipper Rohit Sharma is to remain fit ahead of T20 and ODI World Cup scheduled over the next 24 months. Rohit was appointed skipper after Virat Kohli stepped down as captain from T20Is and was removed from the leadership role in ODIs. “I think it's a good thing and the right thing to do - to have one captain for white-ball format and now Rohit actually can fly,” Agrakar said on the Star Sports.
Star Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh said he had his entire career flashed in front of his eyes when he made that last ditch save against Germany in the bronze medal playoff to secure the country's first Olympic medal in hockey in 41 years. The 33-year-old, a former India hockey captain, formed an important part of the bronze-medal winning Indian team and recently became only the second Indian to win the World Games Athlete of the Year award.
MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Australia confirmed their first tour of Pakistan in 24 years after receiving a go-ahead from governments of both the countries and the players' association, Cricket Australia (CA) said on Friday.
Cricket Australia on Friday confirmed its first tour of Pakistan since 1998, locking in a three-Test series despite lingering security concerns. Australia will play Tests -- in Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore -- fresh off the back of a comprehensive home Ashes victory against England. They will also play three one day internationals and a T20 capping the month-long tour on April 5. The opening Test match will be played from March 4-8 in Rawalpindi and the four white-ball matches are scheduled to be played from March 29 to April 5.
