Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India whitewashed the visiting West Indies side 3-0 in the T20I series. After securing two fabulous victories, the Indian team won the final match at the Eden Gardens by 17 runs. Asked to bat first, a relatively young India side displayed great composure and maturity under trying circumstances against a spirited touring bowling attack. Despite losing Ruturaj Gaikwad early, India strung together crucial partnerships as they posted 184/5 in 20 overs. In the course of this effort, Team India also achieved a new high for themselves in T20Is, thanks to a brilliant batting effort from Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer in the death overs.
Rahul Dravid says he and skipper Rohit Sharma are pretty clear about the team for the T20 World Cup in Australia in less than eight months' time. The former captain, who took over from Ravi Shastri after India's group stage exit in last year's T20 World Cup in UAE, will have his first big challenge in Australia. Dravid said he and Rohit understand what should be the team combination for the mega-event. "I think we have got a fair idea between Rohit and myself and the selectors and the management," Dravid said after their 17-run win over the West Indies in the third T20I that ensured a 3-0 clean sweep here on Sunday.
India put in dominant displays to blank the visiting West Indies team in the three-match T20I series. The 3-0 clean sweep in the T20I series helped India go top of the ICC T20I team rankings. But it wasn't all smooth sailing for Rohit Sharma's team. There were periods in all three games that the visitors dominated but each time, India overcame the difficult situations to come out on top in the match. Following India's 17-run win over the West Indies in the third and final T20I at the Eden Gardens, batting legend Sunil Gavaskar spoke about the "most impressive" aspect of India's wins, especially in the final two games.
Cape Town - Proteas Women's coach Hilton Moreeng believes his team's successful tour of New Zealand in 2020 will stand them in good stead heading into next month's ICC Women’s World Cup.
