Pakistan Face India In Champions Trophy Clash With No Room For Error

Pakistan face arch-rivals India in a Champions Trophy blockbuster on Sunday in front of a sell-out Dubai crowd knowing that another defeat will virtually end their title defence. The neighbours only meet in multi-nation events because of political tensions and the match is taking place in Dubai after India refused to travel to tournament hosts Pakistan. In front of what is expected to be a full house at the 25,000-capacity Dubai International Stadium, and with hundreds of millions more watching glued to their televisions, Pakistan are under pressure.

"Am Not Curator": Rohit Sharma's Razor Sharp Reply On Venue Ahead Of India vs Pakistan Champions Trophy Match

After India began their 2025 Champions Trophy campaign with a six-wicket win over Bangladesh, skipper Rohit Sharma said it was good to see vice-captain Shubman Gill, who hit an unbeaten 101, stay till the end in the chase of 229 at the Dubai International Stadium. Gill took his time before grinding it hard on a sluggish pitch and amidst the pressure of wickets falling around to hit an unbeaten 101 off 129 balls, laced with nine fours and two sixes.

We're Missing Our Proven Fast Bowlers, But It's An Opportunity For Others: Steve Smith

Australia's stand-in captain, Steve Smith is not concerned over the absence of key players in the Champions Trophy and wants the younger players to perform under pressure in the global event. The Aussies will start their campaign in the tournament with a match against old foes England on Saturday, but the 50-over world champions will not have premier pacers Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc in their ranks. They will also miss the services of injured Mitchell Marsh and retired Marcus Stoinis.

But, there remain some decisions, taken by the team management, that certain former cricketers and experts aren't onboard with. Be it the last-minute changes in India's squad for the Champions Trophy or the selection of certain players in the playing XI, over others, there remain many debate-worthy points.

"Catch Toh Mera Bhi Achha Tha ": Mohammed Shami's Candid Take On Missing 'Team Award'

Nine of the 10 Bangladesh wickets taken by India during its Champions Trophy 2025 opening game came via caught-out dismissals. Wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul was busiest, taking three catches, while stalwart Virat Kohli was also a livewire in the field, grabbing two. While Rahul and Kohli were nominated for the 'Fielder of the Match' award presented by Indian fielding coach T Dilip, pacer Mohammed Shami wasn't happy that his catch - to dismiss Bangladesh centurion Towhid Hridoy - didn't make the cut for the award. Shami joked about it in a video posted by BCCI after the match.
