Shane Warne: England cricket team hold a minute's silence
The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to start in a few days. The inclusion of the two new teams -- Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans -- will bring more competition, but will also demand a bit more consistency from the teams. Over the years, the IPL has witnessed several world-class bowlers, but only two of them have managed to win the purple cap (leading wicket-taker of the season) twice -- Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dwayne Bravo. Last season, Harshal Patel stunned the fraternity by bagging the purple cap, but it will be interesting to see whether he can replicate that feat this season.
The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just around the corner, and the edition of the two new franchises -- Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans -- has added a new sense of excitement among fans. Since the inception of the IPL in 2008, only two players have won the Orange Cap (award for the highest run-getter of the tournament) more than once. Australia batter David Warner has won the cap three times (2015, 2017, 2019) while Chris Gayle, who will not be a part of this season's IPL, had finished as the top-scorer in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
Just a day before the start of IPL 2022, Rajasthan Royals found themselves in a rather difficult situation off the pitch. The franchise's social media team decided to post a caricature of team captain Sanju Samson, as part of its campaign to engage fans. But this did not go down well with Samson, who took to Twitter express his disappointment. "Its ok for friends to do all this but teams should be professional. @rajasthanroyals," Samson wrote on Twitter,
The world's most glamorous T20 tournament is back on Saturday as the Indian Premier League returns.
Indian cricket's crown jewel, the IPL, is back home: bigger, better and longer. It will be the first time since 2011 that 10 teams be fighting it out for the most coveted T20 trophy in world cricket. Two new entrants, Lucknow Supergiants and Gujarat Titans, fetching a combined price of approximately USD 1.7 billion shows that brand IPL keeps getting bigger. It took 14 years but the league has now well and truly gone global. The owners of the iconic Manchester Untied also wanted a slice of the IPL pie but lost to the RPSG Group and Britain-based CVC group on the bidding table.
BCCI is planning to start the Women's IPL by 2023, Board President Sourav Ganguly said on Friday while four exhibition games make a return this season after a one-year gap. The BCCI, which has been criticised in the past for not starting the Women's IPL, will need AGM's approval to kickstart the league next season. The Board is planning to have five or six teams in the inaugural edition.
Pat Cummins excited about the team's prospects when they tour Sri Lanka in a few months and India next year. Cummins joined Richie Benaud and Mark Taylor as the only Australian captains to lead their team to a series victory in Pakistan when his side clinched the deciding third Test in Lahore by 115 runs for a 1-0 win. The 28-year-old fast bowler was handed the reins of the Test side in November when Tim Paine stepped down amid a sexting scandal shortly before an Ashes series at home.
