Jos Buttler Provides Big England Captaincy Update After Champions Trophy Exit

England skipper Jos Buttler said he wouldn't like to make any "emotional statements" on his captaincy but "all possibilities" are on the table after his side was shockingly eliminated from the Champions Trophy by Afghanistan on Wednesday. A listless England, barring Joe Root who smashed a century, suffered an eight-run defeat against the Afghans, and it pushed them out of the marquee event prematurely. Chasing 326 for victory, England were bundled out for 317 with Afghanistan batter Ibrahim Zadran smashing a superb 177 and pacer Azmatullah Omarzai grabbing a five-wicket haul. "I don't want to say any emotional statements right now. But I think for myself and the other guys at the top, we should consider all possibilities," said Buttler in the post match presentation on his future as the England white-ball skipper.

Nat Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews smashed commanding fifties after a superb bowling effort as Mumbai Indians hammered UP Warriorz by eight wickets in their Women's Premier League match in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Sciver-Brunt continued her sensational form, finishing with figures of 3/18 as MI restricted UPW to 142/9 after opting to bowl first. The England all-rounder then played a match-winning knock of 75 not out off 44 balls, including 13 fours, forming an 82-ball 133-run second-wicket partnership with Matthews (59 off 50 balls) to guide MI to victory in just 17 overs.

Not Jasprit Bumrah. KL Rahul Names India Star "He Hates Facing In The Nets"

India wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul has revealed that he doesn't like facing teammate and pacer Mohammed Shami in the nets. Speaking on 25 Questions by ESPNCricinfo, Rahul was asked "which bowled he hates facing in the nets" and he took Shami's name. For the unversed, Shami has bowled 28 balls to Rahul in T20 cricket, conceding just 31 runs while also getting him out twice. He was also asked to name one bowler who gives him sleepless nights. This time, Rahul took Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan's name.

ICC ODI Rankings: Virat Kohli Makes Significant Gain With Dubai Century, Rises To...

India's stalwart batter Virat Kohli on Wednesday rose in the latest ICC Men's Player Rankings after he scored his 51st ODI century in a superb display of batting against Pakistan at the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai. Kohli gained one place on the latest rankings for ODI batters to move back into fifth spot overall, as per the ICC who released the new ODI rankings today. Opener Shubman Gill (first) and skipper Rohit Sharma (third) maintained their places at the top of the batting rankings courtesy of their own decent hauls at the ongoing Champions Trophy event.

Afghanistan Register Historic Win, Knock England Out Of Champions Trophy

Ibrahim Zadran's majestic 177 and pacer Azmatullah Omarzai's fifer trumped Joe Root's masterful hundred, as the brave Afghanistan registered a thrilling 8-run win to knock a largely-insipid England out of the Champions Trophy on Wednesday. England are winless after two matches and in their last league match in Group B they will face South Africa, who already have three points along with Australia. Afghanistan now have two points and will have to beat the Aussies in their final group match to entertain the hopes of reaching the last eight. For a long time, England's chase merely rattled along as the dismissal of Phil Salt and Jamie Smith jolted them early. They were 30 for two then, and eventually ended up at 317 all out with a ball to spare as pacer Omarzai (5/58) struck at crucial junctures.

Champions Trophy: Sunil Gavaskar Comes To Babar Azam's Rescue Amid Fiery Criticism

It's tough being Babar Azam at the moment. The batter arguably remains the biggest brand in Pakistan cricket, especially from the batting point of view. But, for a long period of time, results haven't done justice to the talent Babar has. With Babar's underperformance playing a big role in Pakistan's below-par show in the ICC Champions Trophy, the batter has found himself in constant line of fire. Amid such heavy criticism, Babar has received an important piece of advice from Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.

India Receive Massive Boost Ahead Of Champions Trophy 2025 Semifinals

India's bowling coach Morne Morkel has rejoined the team after attending to a personal emergency back home and was part of the squad's training session on Wednesday. Morkel had to leave the Indian camp a couple of days before the team's Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh on February 20. The former South Africa pacer was seen having a long chat with head coach Gautam Gambhir as the players did their warm-up drills at the ICC Academy here. Shubman Gill, who has been India's stand out batter in the tournament, was the only one who did not turn up for practice.
