Mumbai Indians' nightmare in IPL 2022 continued as they suffered their eight straight loss to remain without a win this season. On Sunday, Mumbai were comprehensively beaten by 36 runs by Lucknow Super Giants, who courtesy the win climbed to the fourth spot in the IPL points table. For Mumbai it was another poor outing with the likes of Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard continuing to struggle with the bat. Pollard took two wickets with the ball but was dismissed by former MI teammate Krunal Pandya for 19. Krunal's send-off after he dismissed Pollard, however, hasn't gone down too well with fans on Twitter.
Chennai Super Kings had a horror start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 after they lost their first four matches, but currently find themselves in a slightly better position after winning two out of the last three games. They will be buoyed with their dramatic last-ball win against Mumbai Indians and will hope to continue their momentum when they take on Punjab Kings on Monday. PBKS themselves have won just three matches and CSK would aim to leapfrog them on the IPL 2022 points table with a win. The last time the two sides met earlier this season, PBKS emerged victorious thanks to Liam Livingstone's all-round show. This time, however, Ravindra Jadeja will hope to lead his team to a different outcome.
Punjab Kings will look to get their season back on track as they face Chennai Super Kings in Match 28 of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. PBKS lost their last two games against SunRisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals, respectively. However, with the games approaching thick and fast in the IPL, PBKS will look to carry on with the right momentum. All-rounder Benny Howell could make his IPL debut as PBKS could look to make a few changes in their playing XI.
Left-handed batter Ishan Kishan was picked up by Mumbai Indians in the IPL mega auction for a whopping Rs 15.25 crore and the franchise was expecting him to be at his best and help the Rohit Sharma-led side get off to good starts. However, after scoring 81 in the first game this season, Kishan has failed to get going and he is currently going through a slump in form. In eight matches so far, he has managed 199 runs with an average of 28.43. After Mumbai Indians' eighth straight loss this season, head coach Mahela Jayawardene said that Kishan has indeed struggled in the last few games and his performance is not what the team are "looking from him up at the top".
If there were any doubts that KL Rahul loves to play against Mumbai Indians, they were put to rest on Sunday as he slammed his second century against the Rohit Sharma-led side in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. He matched his 103 against them in their first fixture at the Brabourne Stadium, but stayed unbeaten at the Wankhede Stadium as Lucknow Super Giants won by 36 runs. It was Rahul's third century against Mumbai Indians overall, with him having scored one for Punjab Kings in 2019.
After a few years of being overlooked and sidelined, Kuldeep Yadav is back in the thick of things and seems to have found his mojo back. The spinner has been the shining light of Delhi Capitals' IPL 2022 campaign so far, taking 13 wickets in seven games. Kuldeep partly credited his Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant for the turnaround in fortunes and lavished praise on wicketkeeper. Kuldeep even remarked that Pant was "showing a few glimpses of MS Dhoni's characteristics behind the stumps".
Skipper Rohit Sharma ran out of reasons for Mumbai Indians' losing streak which extended to eight games, accepting that shoddy batting has hurt the team and led to the disaster which the 2022 season has been for the five-time champions. Lucknow Super Giants beat MI by 36 runs with skipper KL Rahul scoring another hundred against his favourite side while Rohit's 39 was the top score for the home team.
