DURHAM, England : England's all-time leading test wicket takers James Anderson and Stuart Broad will always be named in the playing 11 if the two fast bowlers are fit, new test captain Ben Stokes said on Tuesday as he looks to wipe the slate clean and start afresh.
Rinku Singh's IPL career has finally taken off, after 10 matches spreading three forgettable seasons and a career-threatening knee injury. The son of a LPG cylinder delivery man grabbed the headlines in 2018 when he became yet another IPL rags-to-riches story after being signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 80 lakh -- four times his base price. But the fairy tale did not last long. Having made a mark in domestic cricket with his power-hitting, the left-hander failed to deliver at the biggest stage, and in four matches in his debut season, he averaged 7.25 with a strike-rate of 93.54.
The toss ahead of a cricket match has usually been a fairly sophisticated affair, with both captains sharing team sheets and shaking hands before they get ready to compete against each other. However, with leagues like the Indian Premier League (IPL) pitting close friends against each other, sometimes even the toss becomes an event in itself. On Tuesday, ahead of Gujarat Titans' clash against Punjab Kings, Hardik Pandya engaged in some hilarious banter with opposition skipper Mayank Agarwal. After Hardik tossed the coin up and Mayank called it wrong, the Gujarat Titans skipper pumped his fists and let out a celebratory "Yes!" as if he had taken a wicket or won the match.
Former England goalkeepers Nigel Martyn and Paul Robinson were once teammates at Leeds United, with the latter beginning his career as Martyn's understudy before replacing him as number one in 2002.
Nicholas Pooran has replaced Kieron Pollard as captain of the West Indies one-day international and Twenty20 teams. Pollard retired from internationals last week. Pooran has been Pollard's deputy for a year. Cricket West Indies confirmed the captaincy on Tuesday.
Ben Stokes says he wants to lead a team of "selfless" cricketers as he plots England's revival after being named as the new Test captain. The 30-year-old all-rounder was appointed to the role last week after Joe Root stood down following a five-year reign that culminated in a string of painful defeats. Stokes, who was vice-captain to close friend Root, takes over with England having won just one of their past 17 Tests and the team bottom of the World Test Championship table.
Left-handed batter Nicholas Pooran has been named the new West Indies captain in ODIs and T20 Internationals (T20Is), replacing Kieron Pollard, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket. "Nicholas Pooran will take over the captaincy for the West Indies Men's ODI and T20I teams following the international retirement of Kieron Pollard," Cricket West Indies said in a statement. Pooran was earlier the vice-captain when all-rounder Pollard was at the helm of the team in the two limited overs formats.
