Harshal Patel and Glenn Maxwell led a clinical bowling performance to help Royal Challengers Bangalore register a 13-run win over Chennai Super Kings, pushing the defending champions to the brink of elimination in the IPL here on Wednesday. The quartet of Mahipal Lomror, who smashed a 27-ball 42, skipper Faf du Plessis (38 off 22), Virat Kohli (30 off 33) and Dinesh Karthik (27 not out off 17) did well to lift RCB to 173 for 8. RCB bowlers then restricted the defending champions to 160 for 8, despite a fifty by opener Devon Conway (56).
MS Dhoni became the first player to represent Chennai Super Kings in 200 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they went down by 13 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday. Dhoni has played for CSK since the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008, leading them to four titles including the last season. He has a total of 230 appearances in the league, having played for the erstwhile Rising Pune Supergiant franchise for the two years that CSK were banned from the league.
Maharashtra skipper Smriti Mandhana's 84 went in vain as Railways defeated Maharashtra by seven wickets to win the senior women's T20 tournament in Surat on Wednesday. Electing to bat, Maharashtra rode on Mandhana's 84 off just 56 balls to post a challenging 160 for four. In reply, opener S Meghana (52) and D Hemalatha (65) slammed half-centuries as Railways chased down the target with 11 balls to spare. Left-handed batter Mandhana toyed with the Railways attack as she hammered 11 boundaries and three maximums and forged a 74-run stand with opener Shivali Shinde, who chipped in a 30-run knock.

British actor and writer Stephen Fry was Wednesday named as the next president of the influential Marylebone Cricket Club, which is the custodian of the laws of the game. Fry, 64, will take over from former England women's team captain Clare Connor in October. "I am honoured and proud to be nominated as the next president of MCC," said Fry, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for playing Oscar Wilde in the 1997 film "Wilde". "It is a club that is known throughout the world for what it represents in the game and to be gifted the opportunity to perform this role is truly humbling."
