RIYADH: With only 10 days notice, Alsharif Faisal Alharith accepted the Saudi Triathlon Federation’s nomination as their candidate to participate in one of the most intense sporting competitions in the world.
SunRisers Hyderabad pacer Umran Malik's form might have dipped in the past couple of games, however, his speed certainly hasn't. While he has been taken for plenty in the last two games, failing to pick up a wicket against Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, the Indian fast bowler continues to enthrall fans with his pace. Malik bowls consistently in the range of 150-155kmph and in almost all the matches he has played this season, he has managed to win the fastest delivery of the match accolade. In the game against Delhi Capitals on Thursday at Brabourne Stadium, Umran bowled the fastest ball of the ongoing edition, beating his own previous record.
IPL 2022, Rovman Powell was back to his preferred slot for Delhi Capitals' match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, days after he had convinced his skipper Rishabh Pant to "trust me at No. 5." Powell, who hit a breathtaking 67 not out off 35 balls in DC's 21-run win here on Thursday, also spoke about his chat with teammate David Warner, who was closing in on a century, in the innings' 20th over. "I just told him (Pant) to trust me at No. 5, give me a chance to start, to bat the first 15-20 balls, that's how I want to bat, and then (after) 20 balls I'll try to maximise," Powell told host broadcaster Star Sports.
League leaders Gujarat Titans (GT) will look to make changes to their line-up after a rare hiccup against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their almost spotless Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign so far. GT went down against PBKS by eight wickets as they succumbed to their second defeat this season. Skipper Hardik will aim to bat deep this time around considering their below-par performance with the bat in their previous game. All-rounder Vijay Shankar could make a comeback to the final XI in pace of left-arm pacer Pradeep Sangwan.
David Warner had led the SunRisers Hyderabad to their maiden IPL title in 2016 but the Australian was unceremoniously let go by the franchise. He was first removed as captain of the team and then even dropped from the squad, before the franchise decided against retaining him, which meant that Warner returned to the auction pool. On Thursday, the Australian avenged his unceremonious exit from the team by flaying them to all parts of Mumbai to help his new team Delhi Capitals ease to a 21-run victory in an IPL 2022 clash.
Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) fixture at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. MI will be hoping to register back-to-back wins after opening their account against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their previous match. However, skipper Rohit Sharma can bring back premium leg-spinner Murugan Ashwin in place of Hrithik Shokeen to add depth to their bowling line-up and to tackle the hard-hitting finishers in the GT batting line-up.
Delhi Capitals opening batter David Warner reserved his best for his former team SunRisers Hyderabad as he played an unbeaten knock of 92 to help the Rishabh Pant-led side post 207/3 in 20 overs. The side was then able to defend the total, registering a win by 21 runs to move to the fifth spot in the IPL points table. During the course of his innings, Warner played an innovative shot while changing the grip of his bat and becoming a right-handed batter. The shot is now being hailed as "shot of the tournament" by many on Twitter.
Royal Challengers Bangalore batter Virat Kohli showed glimpses of returning to form against Gujarat Titans as he played a 58-run knock but his innings against Chennai Super Kings has left a lot to be desired. The right-handed batter scored 30 runs off 33 balls and he found it tough to register big strikes. Former New Zealand batter Daniel Vettori said that at no stage did Kohli look like going for anything but a single against CSK.
