Former Indian tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi said that India must host the Olympics and also talked about the challenges non-cricket sports face in India. Bhupathi was speaking at the at Trailblazers 3.0 Conclave organised by RevSportz in Kolkata. Speaking at the conclave, Bhupathi said, "We must host the Olympics, be it in 2036 or 2046." Notably, India has expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA), on October 1 last year, formally sent a 'Letter of Intent' to the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Future Host Commission, expressing India's interest in hosting the Olympics and Paralympics Games in 2036.
The critical sentiment over India's 'unfair advantage' controversy in the ICC Champions Trophy continues to grow, with several former cricketers and even current stars highlighting how the hybrid model for the tournament highly favours India. Pakistan legend Waqar Younis has come out with a fiery response on social media after ex-cricketer Mohammad Hafeez questioned the legacy of the 1990s and early 2000s stars. An awkward incident on live television saw Hafeez saying that the 1990s and early 2000s stars could not inspire the next generation by failing to win a number of ICC events during their time. "I am a huge fan of those who played in the 1990s but when it comes to legacy, they left nothing for Pakistan. They didn't win an ICC event - they lost the (World Cups of) 1996, 1999 and 2003. We reached one final (in the 1999 World Cup) and lost that badly. As stars, as players, they were the mega superstars. But then they couldn't inspire us by winning an ICC event. Then came a difficult period that we had to go through and then in 2007 we lost the final (of the T20 World Cup).," Hafeez said during a discussion on PTV Sports.

Riding on his superb performance in the ODI series against England last month, ace India top-order batter Shubman Gill has been nominated along with Australia's Steve Smith and New Zealand's Glenn Phillips for the ICC 'Player of the Month' for February. Gill, who is currently in Dubai with the Indian team for the ongoing Champions Trophy, scored 406 runs, averaging 101.50 at a strike-rate of 94.19 in the five ODIs that he had played in February. Gill hit a purple patch in the three-match series against England, scoring 87 (in Nagpur), 60 (in Cuttack), and 112 (in Ahmedabad) as he was adjudged the 'Player of the Series' in the hosts' 3-0 clean sweep.
Former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad questioned Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and their lack of investment in local talent over the years, asking they are building a brand or truly focussed on winning the Indian Premier League (IPL). RCB will kickstart their campaign against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 22 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. In their current set-up, RCB features two talents from Karnataka, all-rounder Manoj Bhandage, who has not been given a game since being signed by the franchise in 2023 and Indian batter Devdutt Padikkal, who enjoyed two strong seasons with the franchise in 2020 and 2021 before two decent seasons with Rajasthan Royals (RR) and a sub-par season with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) last year with just 38 runs in seven matches. He was brought back by RCB in the auction last year for Rs 2 crores, his base price.
