Women's Tests should be played over five days, says ICC's Greg Barclay

International Cricket Council (ICC) chair Greg Barclay said women's Test matches should be played over five days, but raised doubts over the place of the longer format in the future of women's cricket. Women's Test matches are played over four days as opposed to five in the men's game, and the five Test matches that have been played since 2017 have all ended in a draw. England captain Heather Knight has backed five day-Tests and England bowler Kate Cross said women cricketers were fit enough to cope with the physical demands of longer matches after the drawn Ashes Test in January. "Most people would say five days are required," Barclay told the BBC. "If they are going play it, my personal view is they should have five days to play it in." The only countries to have played a women's Test match in the last five years are England, Australia and India. Barclay added that shorter formats of cricket were "the way of the future" for the sport, saying one-day internationals and Twenty20 cricket were more appealing for fans. "It is where broadcasters are putting their resources," Barclay said. "It is what is driving the money. "To play Test cricket you have got to have structures domestically. They don't really exist in any of the countries at the moment. I can't really see women's Test cricket evolving at any particular speed. "That's not to say any countries that choose to play Test cricket can't do so. But I don't see it being any part of the landscape moving forward to any real extent at all." In a post on Twitter, former player-turned-broadcaster Isabelle Westbury said Barclay's comments were "disappointing."

"Disappointing That People Make Such Comments": Wriddhiman Saha On Quitting Bengal

Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha is all set to quit Bengal after playing for the state for 15 years in domestic cricket. Saha had opted out of the league stage of this year's Ranji Trophy but was named in their squad for the knockout stages, following which he sought an NOC to leave Bengal. Saha has now opened up on his decision to leave and said that he had informed Cricket Association of Bengal president Avishek Dalmiya that he had made up his mind on leaving the domestic side, but will meet him and finalise the formalities.

"Speed Se Kuch Nahi Hota": Pakistan Pacer's Reply To Question Involving Umran Malik

Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has been in fine form across formats for the past few years. Shaheen Afridi, who won the Sir Garfield Sobers award for the men's cricketer of the year in 2021, has been tormenting batters from across the globe with his swing, and line and length. On being asked about New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson and young India fast bowler Umran Malik's mindboggling speeds in the IPL, Shaheen said that raw pace is of no use without line, length and swing.

ICC chair warns of reduction in volume of Test cricket in future

Test cricket runs the risk of witnessing a reduction in its volume in a decade's time, warns ICC chair Greg Barclay. Barclay, who was appointed as ICC chair in November 2020, said the world body will face a serious challenge in deciding the next Future Tours Program starting next year. "There is a men's and women's event every year and the growth of domestic leagues are forcing things from the bottom and ...

Watch: On This Day In 1993, Shane Warne Unleashed The "Ball Of The Century" To Bamboozle Mike Gatting

Shane Warne will go down in the history of cricket as one of the greatest bowlers ever seen. The wily leg-spinner had a knack of bowling unplayable deliveries which would catch the batters off-guard. Warne died this year in March after a suspected heart attack in Thailand but his legacy lives on. It was on this very day (June 4), 29 years ago, when Warne stamped his authority in the Ashes as he delivered a the "ball of the century" to get the better of England batter Mike Gatting during the first Test at Manchester.
