Indian tycoon Mukesh Ambani has seen off competition from global media giants to bag the rights to stream the IPL for 2.6 billion dollars, a source at India's cricket board told AFP on Tuesday. Star India meanwhile, owned by US behemoth Disney, retained the television rights for the next five seasons of the Indian Premier League, one of the world's most-watched sporting events, media reports said. Together the two deals are reportedly worth about $5.65 billion, dwarfing the $2.55 billion that Star paid in 2017 for digital and TV rights for the previous five seasons of the annual two-month T20 contest.

Ollie Pope backed up England’s belief in him with a high-class hundred in the second LV= Insurance Test against New Zealand, but admitted he was fearing the worst when he took a call last month from new coach Brendon McCullum.
Sunil Gavaskar knows a thing or two about scoring runs in Test cricket. The Indian batting legend was the first batter to complete 10,000 runs in Test cricket and he has given his verdict on the latest entrant to the elite club - Joe Root. The former England captain has been in devastating form with the bat and has been scoring centuries at will in the ongoing Test series against New Zealand. There is a lot of discussion about whether the 31-year-old Root can pose a threat to the all-time run scoring record of Sachin Tendulkar. Gavaskar has said that anything is possible in sport but it is going to be a very tough task even for someone with Root's level of consistency.
India have been convincingly beaten in the first two games of the five-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series at home by South Africa. But one player that has impressed despite the losses has been Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The Indian fast bowler seems to have found his mojo back after his injuries had threatened to derail his career. In the second T20I in Cuttack, in particular, Bhuvneshwar was just brilliant, taking four wickets for 13 runs off his four overs to keep India in the hunt.
Joe Root has been in stunning form with the bat in the past year and in the opening Test against New Zealand at Lord's, he became the latest entrant to the elite 10,000-run club in Test cricket. The former England captain continued his rich vein of form in the ongoing second Test at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham, scoring a brilliant 176 to lead England's reply to New Zealand's mammoth first innings score of 553. As Joe Root reached the magical three-figure mark, a few of England Women team stars were in the stadium to witness the special knock.
