Jamie Overton hit a stunning 97 on his England debut and then starred with the ball as the hosts closed in on a series clean sweep against World Test champions New Zealand at Headingley. New Zealand were 168-5 in their second innings, a lead of 137, with paceman Matthew Potts having taken 2-20, when rain cut short Saturday's third day of the third Test. But with England having chased down 299 inside a day to win the second Test and go 2-0 up in the three-match series, the Black Caps still had plenty to do if they were to avoid a whitewash, with two days' play remaining in Leeds.
England debutant Jamie Overton fell agonisingly short of a century in his first Test innings before a dropped catch helped Tom Latham reclaim the initiative for New Zealand on day three at Headingley.
In its bid to create uniformity in training system across ranks, the BCCI has joined hands with Australian Strength & Conditioning Association (ASCA) to create a pool of world class trainers (S&C coaches) in the country. Recently, the BCCI has formed its Sports Science section at the National Cricket Academy, which is being headed by former national team head physio Dr Nitin Patel. They have now come up with the concept of creating a programme that will "increase the knowledge base of fitness trainers across all levels in BCCI."

Team India have begun their preparations for the two-match T20I series against Ireland, starting June 26 in Malahide. While Hardik Pandya will lead the second-string Indian team, NCA chief VVS Laxman has been named as the head coach for the two T20Is. Hardik has been rewarded with the India captaincy after he led Gujarat Titans to the IPL 2022 title last month. On the eve of the first T20I, Hardik and Laxman addressed the Indian squad before the team's practice session at the venue.
Indian pacer Navdeep Saini was in hot form against his own country during India's tour game against Leicestershire. On Day 3 of the practice match, Saini bowled a great spell and got the wickets of KS Bharat and Ravindra Jadeja in one over. Bharat, who opened for India in the second innings, tried to pull a short ball by Saini and ended up skying it to Jasprit Bumrah at mid-on. Then, one delivery later, he bowled a length ball across Jadeja, who ended up getting an edge to Louis Kimber at second slip.
Rajat Patidar stamped his class with an authoritative century to put Madhya Pradesh on the cusp of their historic Ranji Trophy triumph against 41-time champions Mumbai on a rain-hit fourth day of the summit clash here on Saturday. Havens opened up minutes before the tea break, and Madhya Pradesh finished their first innings at 536 soon after resumption with a game-changing lead of 162 runs, courtesy Patidar's superb 122, that had as many as 20 boundaries.
