Star England pacer Stuart Broad has been handed an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third match of England's ICC World Test Championship series against New Zealand in Leeds. "Broad was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an international match," the ICC said in a statement.
Former England spinner Graeme Swann is thrilled with the transformation the English Test team has undergone under the leadership of new captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum. He said that the momentum they are carrying from the recent series sweep over New Zealand makes them "slight favourites" for the rescheduled fifth Test against India in Birmingham. Swann said that if the Test had happened as per schedule last year, then he would have handed it to India "on a platter" as they were the better team then. But now, with England's new exciting brand of cricket, he feels the hosts hold the edge.
The Pakistan Cricket Board is working on a project to host an annual three-nation T20 series with Australia and England in the new Future Tours Program of the ICC which runs from 2023 to 2027. According to a reliable source aware of the developments, PCB chairman Ramiz Raja is expected to put forward the proposed plan at the ICC meetings scheduled to be held in Birmingham during the Commonwealth Games.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to use only two or three major venues for the seven-match T20 international series against England, which is scheduled just before the World Cup in Australia. According to a report, initially the PCB wanted to hold the matches at more venues, including smaller international ones like Faisalabad, Multan but have now dropped the plan.
The fifth rescheduled Test between India and England will start on July 1 but there's no clarity on Rohit Sharma's participation. The Indian skipper is under isolation after testing positive for COVID-19 last week. With vice-captain KL Rahul also out injured, the question remains as to who will lead the team against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Rohit was named as India's all-format captain after Virat Kohli had stepped down from the role, following the Test series defeat in South Africa.
Because, according to him, there is no other option but to just face the challenges head on when batting at the top of the order. Riding his powerful striking abilities, Hooda hogged the limelight with a 57-ball 104 in India's second T20 International against Ireland here on Tuesday. Batting at number three, Hooda became only the fourth Indian batter to score a century in the shortest format. "I've never opened in an international game, but being a top-order batsman, you have to cope up to the challenges and you don't have any option. "And if you don't have any option, then why don't you go there like a warrior. That's how I think, and things turned in my way. I'm happy about that," said Hooda after the match.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) will have an extended 10-week window in the next international calendar to allow all the world's top cricketers to participate in the popular T20 competition, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah told Reuters. Shah also told Reuters that there are no immediate plans to add more franchises to the 10-team competition and that any future additions must not dilute the quality of the product. "We are in discussions with the ICC (International Cricket Council) and several other cricket boards to have an exclusive window for the IPL," Shah said.
