ICC Considers Mammoth Changes To Points System For World Test Championship 2025-27 Cycle

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is likely to ponder over a new bonus points system during its board meeting in April which could give more weightage to bigger victories, especially overseas, during the next World Test Championship cycle. The 2025-27 WTC cycle will begin with India's five-match away Test series against England in June. As per the prevailing rules, the team winning by the smallest margin or by an innings gets 12 points, six points for a tie and four points for a draw. But this could see a change as the global governing body, as per a report in Telegraph, is considering awarding bonus points for innings victories or for a win above a certain big margin such as 100 runs.

A family court on Thursday allowed the joint plea filed by cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his estranged wife seeking divorce by mutual consent. The estranged couple appeared before the family court in Bandra. Chahal's advocate Nitin Gupta said the family court has granted decree on the joint petition filed by Chahal and Verma for divorce by mutual consent. The court noted that the parties have complied with the consent terms. "The family court has accepted the joint petition filed by Chahal and Verma seeking divorce by mutual consent," Gupta said. Chahal and Verma got married in December 2020. As per their petition, they separated in June 2022.

BCCI's Champions Trophy 2025 Reward Breakdown: "Rs 3 Crore Each For Players, Gautam Gambhir..."

Each player in the squad of the ICC Champions Trophy winning team will be given Rs 3 crore, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia said. BCCI on Thursday announced a cash prize of Rs 58 crore for the ICC Champions Trophy-winning Indian team, with the contributions of all players, coaching staff, support staff and members of men's selection committee to be recognised. Speaking to ANI, Saikia revealed the breakdown of the cash prize, saying, "Rs 3 crore each will be given to every player. Rs 3 crore will be given to the head coach (Gautam Gambhir), Rs 50 lakh will be given to the remaining coaches (assistant coaches Ryan Ten Doeschate, Abhishek Nayar, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, bowling coach Morne Morkel), remaining support staff will 50 lakh each and BCCI officials will get Rs 25 lakh each."

Belgian club Anderlecht fire coach and rehire Besnik Hasi to the end of the season

BRUSSELS: Belgium’s most successful club, Anderlecht, have fired coach David Hubert and replaced him with Besnik Hasi until the end of the season. Thursday’s move came as the Belgian league enter their playoff phase. Anderlecht finished the regular season in fourth place. The 53-year-old Hasi, who also coached teams in Poland, Greece and Saudi Arabia, is returning to Anderlecht after guiding the team to the league title in 2014. He also played for the Brussels team. “I know this club and the expectations that come with it,” he said.

Former India captains Dilip Vengsarkar and Diana Edulji were on Thursday conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Mumbai Cricket Association. MCA also celebrated the city's cricketing excellence and recognised the top performers of the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. A key member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, Vengsarkar captained India in 10 Tests and 18 ODIs and later served as MCA Vice-President and Chairman of BCCI's Selection Committee. Edulji, whose international career spanned over 17 years, played a pioneering role in establishing and promoting women's cricket in India.
