Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill were in the spotlight during India's innings in the ongoing fourth and final Test match against Australia. While the rising star Gill shone with his 128-run knock at the start of the innings, the batting veteran Kohli raced to his 28th Test century (186 runs) -- a hundred in the format after more than three years. Both the batters used the friendly conditions at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad beautifully to their advantage. The duo, however, is also being talked about due to a bromance video that has gone viral on the internet.
On this day in 2001, two of the finest Indian batters in the history of cricket -- Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman -- created historic, orchestrating a partnership of 376 runs, completing a historic comeback against Australia at the iconic Eden Gardens stadium. Even today, the tales of the duo's heroics with the bat are celebrated in ever nook and corner of the country. On the 22nd anniversary of the occasion, former India cricketer Hemang Badani shared an unheard tale from the match that sums up how big a comeback it was from Laxman and Dravid.
After a gap of over 1200 days, Virat Kohli reached the triple-digit score in Tests, scoring 186 runs for India in the first innings of the Ahmedabad Test against Australia. The biggest chunk of the last three years wasn't the most pleasant in Kohli's career, with the batter struggling to score big runs in all three formats of the game. However, Kohli's will to bounce back paid off and in a matter of months he has multiple centuries in all three formats of the game. However, joining India's head coach Rahul Dravid for a chat after the conclusion of the Ahmedabad Test, Kohli was asked if the century drought in Tests was 'hard' for him. The batter gave a 'brutally honest' response.
Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara both turned bowlers for India in the final overs on Day 5 of the fourth Test match against Australia in Ahmedabad on Monday. With the match headed for a draw, India skipper Rohit Sharma opted for unconventional bowling choices, but the duo did not disappoint as commentators were left impressed by their discipline. While Shubman Gill kept bowling on the stumps with his off-spin, Pujara's action and bowling style reminded former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar of legendary Australia spinner Shane Warne. Both players bowled one over each in the final session.
BENGALURU : India will monitor the workload of their players in the build-up to the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, with some of them set to play key roles with their teams in the Indian Premier League, captain Rohit Sharma said.
With the Ahmedabad Test heading for a dull draw on the 5th day, the Indian cricket team handed the ball to ‘net bowlers' Cheteshwar Puajra and Shubman Gill. The duo bowled one over each before the two teams decided to conclude the match early. However, later on, Ravichandran Ashwin took to Twitter and posted a hilarious tweet, while sharing a picture of Pujara bowling in the Ahmedabad Test. Pujara then gave a brilliant response to Ashwin, resulting in a hilarious Twitter conversation between the two.
Four New Zealand players, including Kane Williamson and Tim Southee, were given go-ahead by the country's cricket board to join their respective Indian Premier League (IPL) teams without taking part in the home white-ball series against Sri Lanka. The quartet of Williamson (Gujarat Titans), Southee (Kolkata Knight Riders), Devon Conway and Mitchell Santner (both Chennai Super Kings) will be released after the second and final Test against Sri Lanka beginning here on Friday so that they are able to join their respective IPL franchises early.
