IPL 2023 Updated Points Table:
Senior Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara, leading Sussex, scored a century in the first innings against Durham in the the County Championship Division Two here on Friday. Pujara, who has been named captain for this season, brought up his ton in 134 balls by slamming back-to-back boundaries off Brydon Carse in the 55th over on the second day. Walking to the middle when his team was at 44 for 2, Pujara scored 115 off 163 balls to cut short Durham's lead as he shared a vital 112-run partnership with Tom Clark.
Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar feels that Devdutt Padikkal should not be sent at the number four position. Padikkal fared well as an opener in IPL, but the change in his batting position of late has seen him fail in making noticeable contributions. As the former Royal Challengers Bangalore opener continues to struggle with consistency in his current team Rajasthan Royals, Manjrekar has suggested that he should be sent at the number 3 position and RR skipper Sanju Samson should take the 4th spot.
One of the most prolific wicket-takers in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Amit Mishra is a player that is usually associated with dismissals with the ball. However, in the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mishra drew everyone's attention for his fielding effort, taking a brilliant diving catch to end Rahul Tripathi's stay in the middle. As Mishra completed the catch, his teammates gathered around him to congratulate the veteran spinner for executing the sort of catch he isn't known for.
Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has predicted that young pacer Arshdeep Singh can play in all three formats for India in the future. After enjoying breakthrough seasons in IPL in 2021 and 2022, Arshdeep made his T20I debut for India in July last year against England, before also representing the team in ODIs later that year in Novemenr. He was part of the Indian team for the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup last year. However, after suffering an injury, Arshdeep struggled to cement his place in the team.
Pakistan on Friday appointed Grant Bradburn as the head coach of their men's team for their upcoming limited-overs series against New Zealand. Bradburn, 56, played seven Tests and 11 one-day internationals for New Zealand before taking up coaching. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) added that Andrew Puttick of South Africa will join the staff as batting coach. The head coach position fell vacant after Saqlain Mushtaq's term ended in February. Abdul Rahman filled in for the three Twenty20s against Afghanistan last month.
Delhi Capitals, already reeling at the bottom half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 standings, are set to lose overseas star Mitchell Marsh for a few games. In an update, the franchise's bowling coach James Hopes revealed that Marsh will be returning home to get married. The personal event, however, will not see the Australian star miss the remainder of the campaign. After wrapping up the nuptials, the all-rounder will return to join the Capitals for the 16th edition of the league.
Kolkata Knight Riders bowler Suyash Sharma had a memorable IPL debut as he outplayed the Royal Challengers Bangalore batters with his spin at the Eden Gardens on Thursday. The leggie picked up the prized wickets of pinch-hitter Dinesh Karthik, Anuj Rawat, and tail-ender Karn Sharma as KKR thrashed Faf du Plessis' side by 81 runs. Suyash ended his quota of four overs with figures of 3 for 30. The confidence was clearly visible as the leg-spinner confidently dealt with the RCB batters on his debut.
