On the second day of the second Test, England significantly improved their position by taking the final five wickets for 77 runs, dismissing Australia for 416, and responding with a score of 278 for four.
The World Test Championship final is always slated after two months of IPL and there is a school of thought that BCCI should speak to IPL franchises in order to monitor workload of players. Former BCCI president and ex-India captain Sourav Ganguly, who has been on both sides of the fence feels it is not a practical solution. "I don't agree with this theory. Ajinkya Rahane also played IPL and he played very well during IPL and World Test Championship final. So I don't believe in this theory. Red-ball specialist batter Kraigg Brathwaite will continue to lead the side as Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Friday announced an 18-member squad for the preparatory camp ahead of the two-match Test series against India. The camp begins at CCG in Antigua on Friday with the team travelling to Dominica on July 9. The opening Test begins on July 12 in Dominica, with the second Test scheduled from July 20 in Trinidad's Queen's Park Oval. It will be followed by the three-match ODI series, starting on July 27, and a five-match T20I series beginning on August 3.

Australia's batter Steve Smith updating about the injury of Nathan Lyon, said that his injury "did not look good". Lyon sustained an injury in the 37th over on day two of the second Ashes Test at Lord's of the England innings when Lyon was seen limping out with the physio shortly after completing a spell. Chasing a ball to the fence, Lyon seemed in immediate discomfort and was quickly taken off the field. "It doesn't look ideal for the rest of the game. I'm not sure how he actually is, but if he is no good, it is obviously a big loss for us. Fingers crossed he is okay but it didn't look good obviously," Smith said in a media interaction.
