A huge fight broke out at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi on Sunday during the Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians IPL 2025 match. In a video that has gone viral on social media, spectators can be seen fighting during the match in one of the stands. It is not yet known how the fight started. While a female fan could seen hitting a fellow spectator, others were calling for the security to intervene. Then a security official stepped in as controlled the fight which involved at least 10 people.
West Indies cricket icon Chris Gayle backed star Indian batting pair Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to continue in Tests during the tour to England, saying the longer they are around, the better for the cricketing world. Gayle was speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the second season of the Pro Cricket League, in which he will play for Ghaziabad Bhawani Tigers. Speaking to ANI about the celebrated pair of batters, who have caught flak for their poor Test returns, Gayle said, "Of course they are still going, these guys still have a lot of cricket in them. Don't push them out. The cricketing world needs those guys as much as possible. It is great to have them around still. They still bring a lot of value to international cricket. There is always going to be someone after, but the longer they are around, the better it is for the cricketing world."
It has been a disappointing IPL 2025 campaign for Punjab Kings spinner Yuzvendra Chahal till now. Chahal, who was bought for a mammoth Rs 18 crore, has picked just two wickets in five matches at an economy rate of 11.13. Chahal has turned out to be ineffective when it comes to some situations and his dismal run has resulted in a lot of criticism from fans as well as experts. Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer believes that Chahal has been quite defensive and he looks 'off-colour' right now.
A beleaguered Punjab Kings need to pick up pieces after being blown away by 'tornado' Abhishek Sharma as they face yet another challenging opposition in Kolkata Knight Riders in Mullanpur on Tuesday. It is a rarity that a team loses after putting on board a mammoth score like 245 but Punjab Kings had to endure a hard-to-digest defeat due to Abhishek Sharma's whirlwind knock of 141 off just 55 balls in their previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. A helpless Shreyas Iyer, who himself smashed a 36-ball 82, could only laugh at the end of the match after watching his bowlers torn to shreds by Abhishek's blazing blade.
5-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings look all set to unleash another young star in the T20 league after signing 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre as the replacement for skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. The CSK captain fractured his elbow, and the injury ruled him out of the remainder of the IPL campaign. The situation prompted the management to hand the franchise's captaincy to its icon MS Dhoni, but the team still needed an additional batter to fill in the void left by Gaikwad. After a successful 2-week trial, CSK management decided to hand Mhatre an IPL contract for the remainder of the season.
Karachi Kings started their Pakistan Super League 2025 campaign with a win over Multan Sultans at National Stadium on Saturday. Mohammad Rizwan scored a century as Multan Sultans scored 234 for 3 in their stipulated 20 overs after getting an invitation to bat first. In the chase, Karachi Kings reached home with four wickets in hand and as many balls to spare. England batter James Vince scored a ton to help the Kings register the victory in their first game of the season.
Back into the Indian Premier League after a 2-year hiatus, Karun Nair marked his return to the T20 league with a superb knock for Delhi Capitals, but despite being away from the league for two seasons, he always knew what to expect from the opposition in terms of quality having been there and done that earlier too. Grabbing his first opportunity of the season with both hands, Karun hit a superb 40-ball 89 while chasing a target of 206, but it went in vain as DC ended on 193 in 19 overs to go down by 12 runs to Mumbai Indians. Not many batters have hit Jasprit Bumrah for two sixes in an over, and Karun underlined his preparation as a key to success, having gained enough confidence during the domestic season in which he aggregated 1870 runs for Vidarbha across formats.
