Harry Brook Makes History, Achieves Phenomenal Record During Ashes 2023

England cricket team batter Harry Brook made history on Sunday as he became the fastest to reach 1000 Test runs in terms of balls faced during the third Ashes encounter against Australia at Headingley. The 24-year-old needed just 1058 balls to reach the milestone and in the process, he broke the record held by New Zealand's Colin de Grandhomme who achieved the feat in 1140 deliveries. His compatriot Tim Southee is third with 1167 balls while England opener Ben Duckett did it in 1168 balls. When it comes to innings, Brook is joint-fifth fastest along with Herbert Sutcliffe and ED Weekes.

England were struggling at 171-6 -- still needing a further 80 runs to reach a target of 251 -- after Mitchell Starc had removed skipper Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow in quick succession after lunch on the fourth day.

Dilshan Madushanka Spearheads Sri Lanka Victory Over Netherlands

Sri Lanka won the duel between the two World Cup qualifiers on Sunday thrashing the Netherlands by 128 runs in the final of the tournament in Harare. The Dutch did well to skittle the Sri Lankans out for just 233 inside 48 overs after Dutch captain Scott Edwards won the toss and put them into bat. However, the Dutch were never in the hunt after being reduced to 39-3 -- man of the match Dilshan Madushanka taking three of the wickets -- as they collapsed to 105 all out in just over 23 overs.  Sri Lanka coach Chris Silverwood was beaming after his side achieved all the targets set for them. The 48-year-old Englishman said the confidence gained from the tournament would serve them well for the sport's quadrennial showpiece which gets underway in India on October 5.

Australia Legend Questions David Warner's Spot In The Ashes XI. Says "He's Smiling Too Much"

David Warner has not had a special Ashes so far. He scored 1 and 4 in the third Test at Leeds. His performance in the other two Tests has also not been special - going past 40 only once in four innings. For the 17th time, he fell victim to Broad's bowling when he was dismissed by the star England pacer in the second innings at Headingley. Former Australia wicketkeeper Ian Healy is not at all pleased with Warner, and questioned his spot in the XI.
