The Indian cricket team registered a comprehensive 10-wicket win against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final on Sunday. After Sri Lanka opted to bat, Mohammed Siraj ran through their battng order, picking six wickets for just 21 runs in seven overs. Sri Lanka were skittled out for a paltry total of 50 runs, which India chased down in 6.1 overs. Sunday's win is a good confidence booster ahead of next month's World Cup on home soil. Former England Test skipper Joe Root has been added to England's first ODI squad against Ireland at Headingley at his own request. England's initial squad didn't include a single player from their provisional ODI World Cup squad for the three-match ODI series. Harry Brook was the only exception, he was a part of the ODI series but after being included in the squad in place of Jason Roy, he will rest for the entire series. Root will be looking to gain some momentum before the ODI World Cup commences on October 5. He has struggled for form during England's recently concluded 3-1 series win over New Zealand, making 6, 0 and 4 in the first three games before a rusty knock of 29(40) in the fourth ODI at Lord's. His knock further exposed his lack of rhythm and consistency in the 50-over format.
Sunday brought in great news for the Indian cricket team. The Rohit Sharma-led side put up clinical show to win the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka in Colombo by 10 wickets. A fairytale spell from Mohammed Siraj skittled through the Sri Lankan batting order on Sunday in the final of the Asia Cup. The 29-year-old pacer made history, not just for himself but for the country. Siraj became the first Indian bowler to take four wickets in an over in men's internationals. He is the joint fastest to take 5 wickets in a match, but most importantly his performance helped India win the Asia cup for a record 8th time.
DHAKA: A Bangladeshi cricketer was embroiled in controversy Monday over misogynistic social media posts condemning working women, just days after making a brilliant international debut.
India vs Australia 2023, Team India Squad Announcement: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to announce the squad for the three-match ODI series against Australia, starting September 22. The press conference for the announcement of the squad will start at 8:30pm IST.
After Pakistan crashed out of the Asia Cup in the Super 4 stage, reports emerged that captain Babar Azam was involved in a verbal spat with star pacer Shaheen Afridi. Babar reportedly questioned the role of the senior players in the Asia Cup 2023 campaign. However, Shaheen interrupted him and said he should not generalise and not criticise those who did well. Babar responded by saying that he is well aware about who is doing well and who's not.
