Bangladesh opt to field against England at Cricket World Cup
England vs Bangladesh, ODI World Cup 2023, Live Updates:England will be taking on Bangladesh in their ODI World Cup 2023 match on Tuesday in Dharamsala. The Jos Buttler-led side will be coming to this clash after facing a shocking nine-wicket defeat against New Zealand in their opening match. On the other hand, Bangladesh registered a victory by six wickets in their previous encounter. While England will certainly be the favourites, Bangladesh know how to turn the tide, and the defending champions know all too well that they can ill-afford a second successive loss. The Indian cricket team might be off to a bright start against Australia in their opening Cricket World Cup 2023 match but the team isn't yet operating at full strength. India's opening batter Shubman Gill, who reportedly contracted dengue a few days ago, remains unavailable because of his health issue. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already ruled him out of India's second match of the tournament against Afghanistan. In fact, it has now been reported that Gill has been hospitalised in Chennai owing to a low platelet count.
Pakistan head coach Grant Bradburn has expressed confidence in their underperforming top-order ahead of their clash against Sri Lanka on Wednesday. For the past few games, Pakistan's top order has been going through a dry patch and Fakhar Zaman has been the most prominent out of the two. The left-handed batter had a below-par Asia Cup as he scored 66 runs in four matches. His barren patch continued in the warm-up games as well as he scored 22 runs against Australia.
Into the format that arguably suits him the most, Virat Kohli produced another mesmerising knock as India defeated Australia in their Cricket World Cup 2023 opening match on Sunday. When it comes to the 50-over format, Kohli knows at what pace he needs to be scoring runs. After India lost Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer for ducks, Kohli maintained the tempo of the match in a manner that didn't put pressure on the Indian team throughout the chase. After India sealed the win, former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir was full of praise for the iconic batter.
India wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul has conceded that he found the continued criticism directed at him painful and puzzling especially when his performance was not that bad. Rahul, who was out of action for months due to a thigh injury he sustained during the IPL in May, returned to the side during the Asia Cup last month, where he finished as the side's third-highest run-scorer.
Mitchell Santner achieved an almost impossible feat as he scored 13 runs off just one legal delivery during the Cricket World Cup 2023 match between New Zealand and Netherlands on Monday. The feat was incidentally achieved on the final ball of the New Zealand innings with Bas de Leede being the bowler who ended up conceding the runs. With just one ball left in the innings, De Leede ended up bowling a full toss which Santner smashed it over long-on for a six. The umpire quickly judged it no-ball and a free hit was awarded to New Zealand. Santner was on strike once again and the left-handed batter was able to repeat his feat as it was a low full-toss once again and this time, he heaved it over backward point for another six. With the two sixes and the no-ball, 13 runs were scored from just one legal delivery.
