Head coach Jonathan Trott is hopeful Afghanistan can keep their World Cup campaign alive by pulling off a win against an under-pressure Pakistan, having come agonisingly close to defeating them earlier this year. The 42-year-old added that the passionate rivalry between the two teams, who are desperate to win, would make it an enthralling contest here on Monday.
Pakistan will be up against Afghanistan in Match 22 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India. The match is scheduled to begin at 02:00 PM IST. Pakistan made a winning start to their campaign with back-to-back victories over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. However, they have stumbled in the last two matches with defeats against arch-rivals India and Australia. A win over Afghanistan will put the Babar Azam-led team's campaign back on track.
Shreyas Iyer pulled off a sensational catch to dismiss the in-form Devon Conway during the Cricket World Cup 2023 match between India and New Zealand on Sunday. Mohammed Siraj bowled a full-ish delivery to Conway during the fourth over of the match and the Kiwi opener went for a leg glance. The connection was very good but Iyer was alert at square leg and he made no mistake in completing a sharp catch. Following the dismissal, Shreyas gestured towards the dressing room to give him the "fielder of the match" medal - a custom that the team has introduced during the ongoing competition.
The Indian cricket team made two changes in the line-up for the Cricket World Cup 2023 match against New Zealand on Sunday. As India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss, he revealed that Mohammed Shami will be playing their maiden World Cup game in this campaign, while Suryakumar Yadav will make his debut in the ODI World Cup for the national team. Making way for the duo were Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur.

England batter Grace Harris produced unprecedented scenes in Women's Big Bash League 2023, hitting six using a broken bat. Harris clobbered a whopping 136 runs, a record for an individual in WBBL history, setting the stage on fire at North Sydney Oval. Harris produced some sublime knocks in her 59-ball stay at the crease, but the one that garnered the most attention was hit using a broken bat. In fact, Harris' bat was already broken but she wasn't willing to exchange it without hitting a maximum.
A desperate Pakistan will be wary of a competent group of Afghanistan spinners' ability to strike hard on an often-gripping Chepauk pitch during the World Cup match in Chennai on Monday. A win is mandatory for Babar Azam's side after two successive defeats against India and Australia, as another slip up will severely hamper their ambitions to reach the semifinals of the tournament. Currently, they are in the fifth position with four points from as many matches but their net run rate of -0.456 is a worry, and it needs improvement. Pakistan's big headache will be their batsmen's travails, especially against spinners.
