Arshad Nadeem To Undergo Knee Surgery In Bid To Be Fit For Paris Olympics

Pakistan's top javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem has flown to the United Kingdom to undergo a knee surgery in a bid to be fit before the Paris Olympics. Nadeem, who had claimed the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medal, had to withdraw from the Asian Games in China last year due to his knee problem. "I have decided to have the knee surgery now because it has been bothering me a lot since last year and I tried rehab programs but they didn't work," he said. The 27-year-old is hopeful that having the surgery will allow him to be fit in time for the Paris Olympic Games.

"Gone Too Long...": Ex-Australia Star Suggests Big Rule Change For ODI Cricket

Former Australian cricket team batter Aaron Finch believes that ODI matches should be reduced to 40 overs a side in order to bring back interest to the format. In the recent times, a lot of questions have been asked about the relevance of the format with the growing popularity of T20s. In a recent discussion, Finch said that teams bowl 11 or 12 overs per hour in ODI matches and the slow over rate has resulted in spectators losing interest. He added that there is a chance that the cricket fans may end up calling ODI games a 'glorified T20' and as a result, a 40-over format may be beneficial for the future.

Watch: Ben Stokes' Reaction After Losing His Wicket On Jasprit Bumrah's Jaffa Goes Viral

Jasprit Bumrah breathed fire against England on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test by returning figures of 6 for 45 in 15.5 overs. He got Joe Root caught at slip for five with his reverse swing and then brought the house down when he bowled first-Test hero Ollie Pope for 23 with a trademark yorker. Bumrah then removed Jonny Bairstow to claim his third wicket. Stokes attempted to stop the rot in his attacking stay at the wicket but he too failed to find a solution against Bumrah. The right-arm pacer bowled Stokes for his 150th Test wicket with a delivery that seamed back in to the left-hand batsman and stayed low to rattle the stumps.

"India Have Not Been...": England Great's Criticism Of 'Virat Kohli-Less' Hosts

Former England captain Nasser Hussain said that India has not been as ruthless with the bat in the absence of star Indian batter Virat Kohli during the first two Tests against England at home. India has drawn level the five-match series 1-1 and Virat missed the first two Tests due to personal reasons. The batter is set to miss the third and fourth Test matches against England in Rajkot and Ranchi as well, according to a report from ESPNcricinfo. The former India skipper also is doubtful for the final match of the series against England in Dharamshala, the report said.

Paris Olympics Medals To Contain 'Piece Of Eiffel Tower'

The medals awarded at this year's Paris Olympics and Paralympics will feature a hexagon-shaped piece of iron taken from the original Eiffel Tower in their centre, organisers said as they unveiled their design on Thursday. All 5,084 gold, silver and bronze medals for the Paris Games will feature the six-edged metal medallion which will be set like a gemstone under a design by elite French jewellery house Chaumet. "We wanted to offer to all medal-winners at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics a piece of the Eiffel Tower from 1889," said the head of the local organising committee, Tony Estanguet.

Brendon McCullum's Blunt Response When Asked About Strategy To Tackle Jasprit Bumrah Threat

England were at the receiving end of Jasprit Bumrah's sensational spell in the second Test but head coach Brendon McCullum expects his players to work out a way to tackle the immense threat posed by the star Indian pacer. Bumrah ran through the England batting line-up, known for their ultra-aggressive Bazball approach, returning figures of 6/45 to help dismiss the tourists for 253 in their first innings and set up India's series-levelling win in Visakhapatnam. McCullum, also known for his aggressive batting during his playing days, was non committal when asked how England plan to deal with Bumrah in the remaining three Tests, simply saying that his team does not believe in theories.

Rishabh Pant is confident of playing the entire IPL but the flamboyant cricketer could only be available as a batter and not behind the stumps, according to Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting.
