English players involved in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) want to leave the country following the precision strikes by India during Operation Sindoor in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir, which claimed 26 innocent lives. Hours after the midnight strike by Indian armed forces on terror infrastructures in the country, the Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday vowed to continue holding the remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League despite India's attack and further escalation in the hostilities between the two countries.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane admitted that the two-wicket loss to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL) match at Eden Gardens on Wednesday was hard to digest. Despite a strong performance by the bowlers, Rahane acknowledged that KKR fell short with the bat, stating that a single over changed the course of the game. "It was really tough (pill to swallow and lose)," Rahane said after the match, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. "We were 10-15 short, 185-195 would have been an ideal total on this pitch," he added.
Busy with the Kolkata Knight Riders' Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign, skipper Ajinkya Rahane was taken aback when informed that his Mumbai mate Rohit Sharma has announced retirement from Test cricket. The decision from Rohit came as Rahane was preparing for KKR's league clash against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Speaking to the media after the game, Rahane came to know of Rohit's decision to quit, and the KKR skipper admitted being "shocked". Rahane didn't believe he was hearing such news and said that he would give Rohit a call once he was back in the dressing room.
Rajasthan Royals on Thursday named young wicket-keeper Lhuan-dre Pretorius from South Africa as a replacement for injured Nitish Rana for the remainder of the Indian Premier League. The 19-year-old has played 33 T20s and scored 911 runs with a highest score of 97, which came on his debut for SA20 franchise Paarl Royals earlier this year. The Paarl franchise in the SA20 is also owned by the owners of Rajasthan Royals. "He will join RR for his base price of Rs 30 Lakh," said the IPL in a statement.
Chennai Super Kings finally ended their losing streak and claimed a thrilling two-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday at the Eden Gardens. Opting to bat, KKR posted a 179/6 in 20 overs with skipper Ajinkya Rahane scoring 48. Later, CSK chased down the target with two balls to spare and put on a big dent on KKR's hopes of reaching the playoffs. The biggest credit of CSK's win goes to spinner Noor Ahmad, who took four wickets, and batter Dewald Brevis for his 52-run knock off 25 balls. However, it was skipper MS Dhoni's huge six that turned out to be a game-changer for CSK.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Urvil Patel made history on Wednesday as during his first appearance for the five-time champions, he became the Indian batter with highest strike rate in a debut Indian Premier League (IPL) innings, lasting 10 balls or more. Urvil reached this accomplishment during his side's match against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens. During the game, he made 31 in just 11 balls, with a four, and four sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of 281.82. This included two sixes and a four against Moeen Ali and a six and four against Ravichandran Ashwin, marking his ability against spin.
Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and handed one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Chennai Super Kings. CSK, who are out of the playoffs race, defeated the home team by two wickets at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday to also effectively end Ajinkya Rahane's side's hopes of making the top four.
