Describing them as "unsung heroes", BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Monday announced that groundsmen and curators of all the 10 regular IPL venues will be given Rs 25 lakh each as a token of appreciation for providing "brilliant pitches" during the league. The IPL concluded in Chennai on Sunday with Kolkata Knight Riders lifting their third overall trophy with an eight-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) blew away SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) with an exceptional bowling performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first, the KKR bowlers, led by Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora's fiery powerplay spells, knocked the wind out of SRH's sails. Cummins top-scored with a pride-saving 24 as SRH were bowled out for 113 in 18.3 overs.
Drenched in emotion, Kolkata Knight Riders players highlighted the contributions of mentor Gautam Gambhir and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in moulding the team into a champion outfit that outclassed Sunrisers Hyderabad to lift its third IPL trophy on Sunday. The likes of Andre Russell and Harshit Rana found it tough to describe the feeling of being IPL champions, even as they praised Nayar. KKR crushed Hyderabad by eight wickets in a completely one-sided final after bowling out their opponents for 113, the lowest ever total in an IPL title clash. This was KKR's third IPL title.
Gautam Gambhir could finally smile. His team Kolkata Knight Riders had just achieved what he planned for since taking over as the mentor of the side. After Sunday, Gambhir can boast of being an IPL champion as a mentor. That too with a team which he led to title in 2012 and 2014. It was the tournament's lowest ever summit clash score. Venkatesh Iyer (52 not out, 26b, 4x4, 3x6), a forgotten India all-rounder, then helped KKR complete the formalities in just 10.3 overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders claimed the IPL 2024 title with a comprehensive victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday but the summit clash was not without controversy. KKR opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was left fuming following a controversial LBW decision that prevented him from scoring a half-century. During the 9th over of the KKR innings, Gurbaz went for a sweep shot against Shahbaz Ahmed but the ball turned a bit and hits his pads. The on-field umpire raised his finger but Gurbaz quickly took a review and the batter looked extremely confident that he was not-out.
