Pakistan Punished By ICC, Lose WTC Points And Part Of Match Fee - Here's Why

Pakistan were docked six World Test Championship (WTC) points for slow over rate during the opening Test match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. The Shan Masood-led side was found guilty of being six overs short during the encounter and as a result, the International Cricket Council (ICC) decided to dock six points. Pakistan also lost 30 per cent of the match fee after Masood pleaded guilty to the offences and accepted the proposed sanctions. On the other hand, Bangladesh were also found guilty of slow over rate and they lost three WTC points and were docked 15 per cent of the match fee.

Former captain Waqar Younis' three-week stint as an advisor on cricket affairs to the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board has ended on August 19. A well placed source in the Pakistan Cricket Board told PTI that Waqar was initially appointed as a consultant on cricket-related affairs to the incumbent PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, for a period of three weeks. "The board has also advertised the post of advisor on cricket affairs and now candidates who have applied would be interviewed," the source said.

Cracks In Pakistan Team? Shaheen Afridi's 'Hand Off My Shoulder' Act Storms Social Media

Pakistan's hopes of winning their first match in the ongoing cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC) were dashed on Sunday as Bangladesh registered a 10-wicket win in the series-opener in Rawalpindi. It was a big achievement for Bangladesh as the win was one of its kind. For the unversed, this was Bangladesh's first Test win over Pakistan home or away. The visitors now lead 1-0 in the two-match series with the series decider to be played at the same venue from August 30.

'144 Kmph To 128 Kmph': Ex-Pakistan Captain Namedrops Jasprit Bumrah In Brutal Rant

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has rued the downfall of the side's fast-bowling stocks, saying the pacers who started at 145kmph have now come down to 130 kmph. The comments from Latif come a day after Pakistan lost the first Test to Bangladesh by ten wickets, the first time they have lost a longer format game at home by this margin. The hosts didn't field a frontline spinner and went with an all pace-bowling attack. But they failed to contain Bangladesh on a docile pitch as the visitors' made 565, as compared to Pakistan declaring at 448/6.

"Have To Say It Out Honestly": Frustrated Naseem Shah's Swipe At Pakistan Board

Up against a challenging Bangladesh side, Pakistan struggled to make the home advantage count as the visitors took an unexpected first innings lead of 117 runs in the first Test at Rawalpindi. The lead all but ended Pakistan's hopes of winning the opening clash of the series, while giving Bangladesh the hope of a victory. After the end of the fourth day's play on Saturday, Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah called out the board for not creating the sort of pitch that could give the hosts a 'home advantage' that they desired.

"Reality Check": Bangladesh's 1st Test Win Over Pakistan Sparks Meme Fest

In a historic first, Bangladesh on Sunday defeated Pakistan for the first-time ever in a Test, registering an 10-wicket win at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. This was only their seventh win in Tests on overseas conditions, and on the second in Asian soil. The visitors, led by former captain Shakib Al Hasan three-for and Mehidy Hasan Miraz's four-wicket haul, bowled Pakistan out for 146. Chasing 30 to win in Rawalpindi, openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam achieved the target in the final session of Day 5.

No Rashid Khan As Hashmatullah Announced Afghanistan Skipper For Test vs New Zealand

All-rounder Rashid Khan is a notable omission in Afghanistan's 20-member preliminary squad for the one-off Test against New Zealand, to be played in Greater Noida next month. Rashid's absence from the September 9-13 contest comes as a surprise as he has been Afghanistan's highest wicket-taker in the format, having taken 34 wickets in five Tests at an average of 22.35, including four fifers. He played his last Test for Afghanistan in 2021 against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi, where he took 11 wickets.
