Captain Rishabh Pant on Monday admitted it was difficult for his side to fill the void created by the absence of key bowlers as Lucknow Super Giants bowed out of the race to the Indian Premier League playoffs. LSG's six-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad here knocked them out of reckoning for a top-four finish, with the Pant-led side enduring a demanding campaign from their bowling squad, which was stretched thin.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant cited the team's extensive injury list as the biggest reason behind the side's poor show in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign. After LSG were eliminated from the playoffs race, Pant said that the fact that the team didn't get the services of their primary fast bowlers - Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan - led to their underwhelming show this year. However, former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif gave the LSG management a blunt response on the 'excuse', saying the owners shouldn't have retained such injury-prone players.
Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi has been handed a one-match suspension by the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council for repeated breach of the league's Code of Conduct. Rathi had already been penalised twice by the IPL for his extravagant celebrations after taking wickets in LSG's matches. Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, on Monday, Rathi was even involved in a heated altercation with batter Abhishek Sharma, which even prompted the umpires and other players to intervene.
Former India cricketer and the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning star Joginder Sharma feels it is time for Chennai Super Kings icon MS Dhoni to "rest". Chennai, a team that boasts five title wins and 12 playoff appearances, was chasing the shadows of its former self as it crashed out of the playoff race in the group stage. After designated captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament, Dhoni took the mantle of leading the beleaguered CSK. Speculations have been going around about Dhoni's future in the cash-rich Indian Premier League after the five-time champions crashed out of the race to the playoffs following a shambolic campaign in the 18th season.
Former India cricketer and 2007 T20 World Cup hero Joginder Sharma believes Test stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who recently bid adieu to the format, still have enough left in their tanks. Just over a month before India's high-stakes tour of England, batting maestro Virat bid adieu to the Test format with a heartfelt note on Instagram last Monday, days after his long-time compatriot Rohit retired from the format. While looking at the future, he admitted their departure has left a void, but bench strength suggests India will recover from the massive loss.
BENGALURU :Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant said injuries had derailed his side's Indian Premier League campaign after they were eliminated from the playoffs race with a six-wicket defeat by Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday.
Following his side's win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins hailed young Sri Lankan pacer Eshan Malinga for his performances, calling him a "huge asset" for the team. Eshan's two-wicket spell was one of the highlights for SRH as they managed to spoil LSG's party by eliminating them from the playoffs. Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen's quickfire knocks helped SRH chase down 206 set by LSG, condemning the hosts to their seventh loss of the season.
