LONDON : England white-ball captain Jos Buttler will not play in the one-day international series on the tour of West Indies starting later this month after a setback in his recovery from a calf injury, the country's cricket board (ECB) said on Monday.
England's left-arm spinner Jack Leach admitted that he feared about his international career being over after being left out of the home summer games. Leach was out of action since January due to a knee injury sustained during the first Test against India in Hyderabad. But Leach, 33, was recalled into England's Test team for their ongoing tour of Pakistan, where he's picked 14 wickets in two games at Multan. "After a long time out with injury, I felt maybe that might be it, even though I knew this tour was the other side of the summer."
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has criticized skipper Rohit Sharma's tactical decisions following India's first Test defeat to New Zealand in Bengaluru. Rohit faced significant backlash for his captaincy, particularly after New Zealand managed to add 137 crucial runs for the eighth wicket in their first innings. The criticism continued on Day 5 of the match. New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra said that his Indian heritage helped him tackle spin better during Kiwis' win over India in the first Test. Rachin, born to Bengaluru parents in New Zealand, starred in NZ's first Test win in India after 36 years, smashing a fine 134 in the first innings to help Kiwis take a massive lead of 356 runs, something from which India could not fully recover despite a fine show with the bat in the second innings. Shami bowled full tilt in the nets after India's opening Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru on Sunday. This was a few days after skipper Rohit Sharma revealed that he had swelling in his knees which has affected his rehabilitation from an ankle injury sustained last year. "I am very happy with how I bowled yesterday. I was bowling from half run-up before that because I didn't want to take too much load. But yesterday, I decided to go full tilt, and I bowled at a 100 per cent," the 34-year-old told reporters on the sidelines of an event by Eugenix Hair Sciences where he spoke about his cricketing journey.
New Zealand scripted history on Sunday as they clinched the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 title. It was New Zealand's maiden T20 World Cup title, men's and women's both. The White Ferns thrashed South Africa by 32 runs in Dubai on Sunday. Former British Prime Minister David Cameron praised Indian cricket team star batter Virat Kohli as an "extraordinary leader" at the NDTV World Summit. Cameron was asked to choose his favourite Indian cricketer and he went on to shower praise on Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli. He started by saying that he is so old that he grew up watching the legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi and also recalled watching Rahul Dravid score a brilliant century in England. He went on to say that in Virat, India had an extraordinary leader and he showed incredible captaincy and inspiration on the field.
