All the five Women's Premier League franchises submitted the list of retained and released players ahead of the 2025 season. UP Warriorz were the only side to retain 15 players, while all the other four sides kept 14 players in their squad. While the list of retained stars was big, Sneh Rana (Gujarat Giants), Veda Krishnamurthy (Gujarat Giants), Issy Wong (Mumbai Indians), Heather Knight (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) and Lea Tahuhu (Gujarat Giants) were among the big names released by their respective franchises. Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting feels that Pakistan's newly-appointed white-ball captain Mohammad Rizwan should get a "decent run" at the role to showcase his leadership skills in the formats. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed Rizwan as captain of the white-ball teams last month after Babar Azam quit the role for the second time following the early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. Rizwan's first assignment as captain saw Pakistan lose against ODI World champions Australia in the series opener in Melbourne last week. However, Ponting warned Pakistan's management against any impulsive decision regarding the leadership role.

Pacer Michael Neser has been ruled out of the remainder of Australia A match against India A with hamstring injury after bagging four wickets on the opening day of the second unofficial Test. Neser, who returned with the figures of 4-27, pulled up sharply following his second delivery of the 13th over in the morning. He immediately began limping off the ground in a clear sign that he knew exactly what the issue was. A Cricket Australia (CA) spokesperson confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that Neser had injured his left hamstring and would not bowl again in the game. He will undergo scans to determine the severity of the injury.
