"Prodigies Like D Gukesh Are Inspiring A New Generation": Gautam Adani

The youngest-ever World Champion in the history of the game, Gukesh Dommaraju met with one of the leading business tycoons of the country, Gautam Adani, who heaped praise on the 18-year-old Indian Grandmaster for his tremendous achievement in the world of Chess. Gukesh, who scripted history by becoming the youngest-ever World Champion in chess, beat Ding Liren of China in the 14-game match in Singapore. The 18-year-old from Chennai capitalised on a blunder by Ding in the winner-takes-all 14th game to dethrone the reigning champion, winning the match 7.5 to 6.5 and become the second Indian after Viswanathan Anand to become the World Champion in classical chess.

52 Years After Historic First Paralympics Gold, Para-Swimmer Murlikant Petkar Receives Arjuna Award

The Sports Ministry made some more course corrections and awarded the Arjuna Award (Lifetime) to para-swimmer Murlikant Rajaram Petkar, India's first gold medallist in the Paralympic Games, conferring on him the prestigious award 52 years after he made history for the country in Heidelberg, Germany. A soldier with the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) of the Indian Army, when he suffered a debilitating injury that rendered him paraplegic, Petkar won the gold medal in the men's 50m freestyle swimming in the 1972 Paralympic Games at Heidelberg, Germany, becoming the first Indian to bag an individual gold medal in the Olympics or Paralympic Games.

'NFL-ready' Jeremiah Smith solidifies place as college football's fastest-growing star

PASADENA, Calif. — As the final 10 minutes of a confoundingly lopsided College Football Playoff quarterfinal drained from the Rose Bowl Stadium clock, Chris Smith shuffled his way through Row 18 of Section 3 until he reached an aisle. The father of Ohio State's most famous player — freshman phenom Jeremiah Smith, the most talented wideout in the country — sported a scarlet sweatsuit provided to him by Battle Sports, the football apparel company with which his son had signed an endorsement deal. He pulled the hood over his head as the evening temperature dipped into the upper 50s and a set of headphones wrapped around his ears. Aside from the fact that he was seated in the Buckeyes' family section, which occupied the first few rows behind Ohio State's bench, there was nothing to indicate that Chris Smith bore any relation to the sport's fastest-growing star, the offensive MVP from what ended as a 41-21 annihilation of top-seeded Oregon.
