Hundreds of thousands of pounds in business rates written off by Salford council as firms go bust
Nearly £360,000 of business rates debt owed to Salford council - mostly as a result of firms going bust during the Covid-19 pandemic - has been written off. Some £288,000 went unpaid by a total of 36 firms which became insolvent while two companies "absconded" without coughing up a total of £70,000.
FIA ETCR calendar update following FIA World Motor Sport Council decision
At its meeting in Paris today, the FIA World Motor Sport Council agreed that due to the ongoing quarantine restrictions and associated logistical challenges in Asia, rounds of WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup and FIA ETCR – eTouring Car World Cup set to take place on the continent will not be held this year. Together with Discovery Sports Events, the promoter of the two series, the FIA is working towards securing replacement events.

Calls have been made to act swiftly to pay tens of thousands of the ‘least well off’ council taxpayers yet to receive a £150 rebate. In February the Government announced everyone with homes in council tax bands A to D, will get a £150 payment to counter rocketing energy bills.

Council bosses have apologised to a disabled man after contractors completing the £6m Swinton Greenway scheme left debris in the street which caused him to fall. Glenn Kennedy, 57, suffers from osteoarthritis and uses two sticks to walk.
