El conjunto alemán, que acogió la gran final en su estadio, se impuso por 2-0 al Umea IK sueco con tantos de Birgit Prinz y Steffi Jones. Aquella primera fiesta del fútbol femenino congregó a 12.000 personas en las gradas, récord de aquella época. El Frankfurt volvió a hacerse con el título en tres ocasiones más, 2006, 2008 y 2015, para un total de cuatro entorchados.
