Justin Langer will offer England a new approach: Ruthlessness and harsh work ethic

“Was that ruthless?” Justin Langer asks his side in 'The Test', Amazon’s behind-the-scenes documentary following the Australian cricket team. It’s the first day of the final Ashes Test in 2019. Australia have already safely retained the urn, but Langer has his thoughts on something else: the chance to win the Test series in England outright, rather than merely draw and keep hold of the Ashes.

'Impactful moment in my life': Virat Kohli shares memories from the day he was first picked by RCB

Virat Kohli has said that being picked by Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was an impactful moment in his life, which he didn't realise back then. Virat has been a part of RCB since 2008 and became a full-time captain in 2013, after replacing Daniel Vettori. He announced that he will not be the captain of the team after IPL 2021. "I was in Malaysia for the (U-19) World Cup, and I remember the day when the drafts were happening. The Under-19 dynamic was a little different because we rightly had a huge pay gap. That was the only time there was cap on how much can a player be picked for if you have not played for India. Even that moment, for players like us, was so amazing because when they revealed the amount we got picked for, we are surprised and couldn't believe it," Kohli said on an RCB podcast. "Delhi team, which was initially interested in me, later went for Pradeep Sangwan, as their dynamic of the squad demanded for a left-arm seamer and our best during the under-19 campaign. "So since Delhi decided to strengthen their bowling department, RCB picked me and it was such an impactful moment in my life, which I didn't realise then. But when I look back, things would have been very different to what they are now. I would not have it any other way than this," he added.

India vs West Indies, 1st ODI: India look for 'fresh ODI template' as 1000th ODI marks start of Rohit-Dravid era

Rohit Sharma's presence as the new leader, with a fresh template to arrest the familiar 'middle-order muddle', is exactly what the Indian team needs while ushering in a new era, which will begin with the ODI series against the West Indies, here on Sunday. After a rude reality check against a weak South African side in the away series, India are now back in familiar settings with a new ODI captain in Rohit, who will team up with illustrious Rahul Dravid and strive to get India back to winning ways. The series-opener is historic 1000th ODI for India, who would like to begin their preparations for the 2023 World Cup after failing to win the coveted trophy in 2015 and 2019, and the team will indeed look at a paradigm shift in strategy. The 'Rohit-Dravid' duo over the course of the next few months will underline the 'Men in Blue's' philosophy in the 50-over format after it became clear that some rejigging is needed as a part of course correction. Thus, the series beginning Sunday would be the perfect platform to focus on setting their struggling middle-order right.
