Daniel Sams - IPL 2022: My focus is always on economy rate, says Rashid Khan - timesofindia.indiatimes.com - India - Afghanistan

IPL 2022: My focus is always on economy rate, says Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan is enduring an ordinary IPL this year with the ball in terms of wickets, but the Gujarat Titans spinner is not too bothered about that as long as he can produce economical spells for his team. Rashid has so far claimed 11 wickets from as many games at an economy rate of 6.84, figures which definitely won't please him much. But the star Afghan cricketer has taken it in stride. "While bowling in T20s it's always great to take wickets but for me, it's a bit different because I always focus on economy and that is something which puts pressure on the batters," Rashid said at the post-match virtual press conference after GT's five-run loss to Mumbai Indians on Friday. "But definitely compared to other IPLs, got less wickets this year. In a couple of games I didn't bowl as good as I should have. But that's T20, there is so much for you to learn."

IPL 2022: Rookie mistakes cost us, says Hardik Pandya after Gujarat Titans lost to Mumbai Indians by five runs

Gujarat Titans' skipper Hardik Pandya blamed two run-outs at a crucial juncture in their innings for the five-run defeat against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Brabourne Stadium on Friday. Gujarat Titans were in cruise mode after openers Shubman Gill (52) and Wriddhiman Saha (55) had raised 106 for the opening wicket. But the table-toppers lost their way, falling to some good work in the field by Mumbai, who managed to restrict the opposition to 172/5 while defending their total of 177/6. It was a match that Gujarat should have won easily considering the start they got but in the end they could not make nine runs off the last six balls bowled by Daniel Sams.

Contrasting fortunes for KL Rahul, Shreyas IyerThey are two of the most prolific batters for Team India, both possessing attractive shots in their armoury. Both make sure the spectators get their money's worth while they bat. One a languid opening batsman, while the other a clever middle-order bat who can get the better of the best of bowlers. The other interesting facet of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer is their leadership abilities. While Rahul led Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in prior IPLs, Iyer has enjoyed the role of captaining an IPL side with Delhi Capitals before.

IPL 2022: 'Slower ball paid off' - Daniel Sams after bowling Mumbai Indians to victory

Daniel Sams, who conceded just three runs in a dramatic last over to help Mumbai Indians beat Gujarat Titans by five runs, said he stuck to his slower deliveries and it was an "awesome" feeling to finally take his team over the line. Gujarat Titans needed nine runs from the last over bowled by Sams, but they could score just three. "Awesome we got over the line, it went back and forward. 9 runs off 6 balls made me feel I have nothing to lose and the odds are in the batter's favour," Sams said after the match.

IPL 2022: Rohit Sharma lauds Daniel Sams for holding nerve in Mumbai Indians' win over Gujarat Titans

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma on Friday praised the "skills" of Daniel Sams after the Australian fast bowler defended nine runs off the last over to hand his team their second win this IPL. The five-time champions edged out table-toppers Gujarat Titans by five runs as they kept down the opposition to 172-5 in a chase of 178 at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium. IPL 2022, PBKS vs RR: Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals look to stay in playoffs race

Languishing at the bottom half of the points table, the 7th ranked Punjab side has once again been plagued by habitual inconsistency and as a result have managed to win only five of their 10 outings so far. Already into the business end of the tournament, Punjab sorely needed a comprehensive win to resurrect their wayward campaign, and the eight-wicket win over the Titans came at the right juncture. Steered by Kagiso Rabada's four-wicket burst and Shikhar Dhawan's elegant half-century, the win over Gujarat with four overs to spare also pushed Punjab's net run rate from -0.470 to -0.229.

IPL 2022, MI vs GT: Daniel Sams bowls standout last over for Mumbai Indians to edge Gujarat Titans

Daniel Sams holds nerve to fashion 5-run win for wooden spooners as table-toppers Titans choke in the chaseAustralian Daniel Sams bowled three dot balls in the last over to concede just three runs, and give Mumbai Indians, who were under the p ump during the first half of the chase, a come-from-behind five-run win over Gujarat Titans, at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. Apart from the three dots, Sams' over contained the run out of Rahul Tewatia and a tough, missed catch of Rashid Khan. AS IT HAPPENEDA stroke-filled 106-run opening wicket partnership between Wriddhiman Saha, who made 55 (40b; 6x4, 2x6) and Shubman Gill (52; 36b; 6x4, 2x6) had set the Titans on course in the chase. Both were dismissed by leg spinner Murugan Ashwin in the 13th over. However, captain Hardik Pandya's run out in the 18th over gave the five-time IPL champions MI a window of opportunity. Titans still top the table with 16 points from 11 matches while Mumbai Indians have four points from 10 matches.
