Bowlers practice for hours just to get their lines and lengths right, but modern batters are almost always on the move - always looking to create space to play innovative shots to beat the fielders. Shuffling across the stumps and moving laterally across the crease to disturb the concentration and momentum of the bowler in search of quick runs, has become extremely commonplace in modern day limited overs cricket, especially in T20s. Trying to counter this and in anticipation of sudden movement by the batters, bowlers try to bowl different lines and length. They are successful sometimes and sometimes they err and the ball goes for a wide with the opposition team getting an extra run and with the bowler having to re-bowl the delivery. A wide yorker for example is a variation that bowlers these days have developed to try and stop the batters from trying to hit every possible delivery for a boundary. Indian Premier League (IPL) season on Wednesday, Delhi Capitals' (DC) David Warner said that the bowlers made life easier for the batters after bowling Punjab Kings (PBKS) out for 115. Warner smashed an unbeaten 60 to lead the Covid-affected Delhi Capitals to a thumping nine-wicket victory over PBKS here at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. This was Warner's third successive half-century and his 53rd in the tournament. He hit 10 fours and one six in his 30-ball knock. The left-handed batter also went past 1,000 runs against Punjab Kings and is only the second player in IPL history to do so against a single team.
Yuzvendra Chahal's bagful of tricks will meet its perfect match in Kuldeep Yadav's guile as the two wrist spinners are expected to dictate the narrative when Rajasthan Royals clash with Delhi Capitals in an IPL match, on Friday. With current 'Orange Cap' holder in Jos Buttler (375 runs) and 'Purple Cap' holder Chahal (17 wickets) in their ranks, Royals are a team that is looking pretty formidable at the moment even with a dysfunctional middle-order, save Shimron Hetmyer.
Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals all-rounder Axar Patel said a pep talk from head coach Ricky Ponting worked wonders in lifting the morale of the side, resulting in a comprehensive win. DC showed remarkable resilience to overcome a COVID crisis in their camp and hand Punjab Kings a nine-wicket thrashing in an IPL game on Wednesday night.
Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday, Punjab Kings' (PBKS) skipper Mayank Agarwal expressed disappointment and said that he wants his team to forget the day and move on. Bowlers played a key role for Delhi as they bundled out Punjab for 115. The DC batters too responded strongly, chasing down the target inside 11 overs at the Brabourne Stadium here for a nine-wicket win. "It's a tough one, a day to forget for us. Best to move on and not think too much into the game. We didn't bat and bowl well, we just need to move on from today. We have been losing too many wickets too early, that's a concern," said Agarwal at the post-match presentation.
IPL), the much-awaited clash between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings is once again set to be a battle of equals. Except, they're equals at the bottom of the table. T20's 'El Clasico' - played between two teams who've won nine out of the 14 titles so far between them - is a clash this time to avoid the proverbial wooden spoon. The script that's gone 'wonky' got rewritten by fate when introduction of two new franchises last year led to both, MI and CSK, having to let go of their core and look at the mega-auctions on a fresh note.
