IPL 2022: Coach Brendon McCullum rues KKR's powerplay struggles
Kolkata Knight Riders were found wanting on more than one front, but head coach Brendon McCullum singled out their struggles in the powerplay, as the team's disappointing IPL campaign neared its end. Former champions KKR suffered their seventh defeat on Saturday night, a 75-run drubbing by Lucknow Super Giants here. "We struggled in the power play which has been a frustration for us throughout the season," McCullum said, adding that the team needs to find a way to be more aggressive without losing wickets in the first six overs. The Shreyas Iyer-led side now finds itself on the brink of elimination. "We've been good throughout the middle phase and not too bad at the death," McCullum said at the post-match press conference.

Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) skipper KL Rahul said he has lot of faith in his pace battery as it once again delivered under pressure during their massive 75-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here on Saturday. After Quinton de Kock hit a scintillating 50, it was the bowlers, led by Avesh Khan, who dominated the proceedings, to bundle out KKR for 101 and record a huge win which helped them to move to the top of the table. "Played really well, started well with the bat... Was a tricky wicket. Knew it was going to be slow and sticky. Had to get around 150-160," Rahul said during the post-match presentation.

The young southpaw grabbed it with both hands, slamming a fiery half-century to almost single-handedly help Rajasthan Royals beat Punjab Kings by six wickets and arrest a two match winless streak. Rajasthan's chase of 190 got off to a flier with Jaiswal and Jos Buttler clobbering the new-ball duo of Sandeep Sharma and Kagiso Rabada for 46 runs off a mere 23 balls before being separated by the South African pacer. KKR are back to their losing ways. On Saturday, the Knight Riders received a comprehensive 75-run thumping at the hands of Lucknow Super Giants. Chasing 177 to win, KKR folded up for a paltry 101 in Pune. Andre Russell (45 off 19b; 3x4, 5x6) and Sunil Narine (22 off 12b; 3x4, 1x6) provided some fireworks, but the Lucknow pace attack was too strong for Kolkata. Avesh Khan (3/19) and Jason Holder (3/31) shared six wickets between them. AS IT HAPPENEDEarlier, when Lucknow openers KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock walked out to take guard against the KKR bowlers, all eyes were on the LSG skipper. After all, Rahul had scored 451 runs in the tournament, and was chasing Jos Buttler for the Orange Cap. The motley crowd at the MCA International Stadium was hopeful Rahul would add to the two centuries he had scored in the 2022 IPL. But reality proved to be totally anti-climactic. Rahul was run-out for a diamond duck (out without facing a ball), as his opposite number Shreyas Iyer swooped in from short extra-cover and effected a brilliant direct hit in the first over of the Lucknow innings.
