1983 World Cup win anniversary: 'Let's fight it out' - Balwinder Sandhu and Madan Lal recall Kapil Dev's golden words

Kapil Dev said loudly while entering the dressing room after India posted 183 runs on the board in the epic 1983 World Cup final against the mighty West Indies. And, the rest as they say is history. Defending 183, the Indian bowlers wrapped up the West Indies innings for 140, claiming a 43-run win and the title for the country. Balwinder Sandhu, who claimed the first wicket in the summit clash against the West Indies in the form of Gordon Greenidge for just 1, spoke to TimesofIndia.com taking us down memory lane. "Kapil was very confident and positive. The score was really low (183). The West Indies could achieve it. We were all waiting to take the field. Kapil came into the dressing room and there was hope in his eyes. He shouted 'let's fight it out, guys. They will have to make 184 to win. So, let's do it'. We were all pumped up," Balwinder told TimesofIndia.com in an exclusive interview on the 39th anniversary of India's unforgettable 1983 ODI World Cup win.

WI vs BAN 2nd Test: West Indies dominate Bangladesh on Day 1

John Campbell consolidated a dominant position for the West Indies in reaching 67 without loss at stumps after their bowlers dismissed Bangladesh for 234 on the first day of the second and final Test in St Lucia on Friday. A day that started well for the home captain when he won the toss to give his bowlers first use of a sporting pitch ended with Brathwaite unbeaten on 30 and Campbell 32 not out, the pair laying the platform going into day two when they will be seeking to take a step closer to a 2-0 series sweep of their opponents. Alzarri Joseph and Jayden Seales led the West Indies bowling effort with three wickets each while debutant Anderson Phillip, who took the first wicket of the match with just his second ball in Test cricket, and the versatile Kyle Mayers claimed two apiece. That reinforced not just their skipper's decision at the toss but also the selectors' choice in opting for an additional seamer in Phillip at the expense of first Test debutant and spinner Gudakesh Motie.

3rd Test, Day 2: Brilliant Jonny Bairstow and unlikely hero Jamie Overton rescue England first innings

The imperious Bairstow has now blasted back-to-back centuries as he finished unbeaten on 130 from 126 balls, while number eight Overton showed his genuine all-round qualities with an equally eye-catching 89 not out from only 106 deliveries. England trail the tourists' first innings score of 329 by 65 runs at Headingley, but will be delighted with their fightback after they slipped to 55 for six in their reply. It is the highest seventh-wicket partnership for England against New Zealand and Overton's score is the most by an England player on debut batting at number eight or lower.
