Ireland knock two-time champions West Indies out of T20 World Cup to reach Super 12

It was their 32-year-old veteran opener Paul Stirling who smashed an unbeaten 66 from 48 balls (6x4, 2x6) to seal the chase with 15 balls to spare after legspinner Gareth Delany's careerbest figures of 4-0-16-3 restricted the Windies to 146 for five. Playing their seventh T20 World Cup, it is only the second time Ireland reached the second stage following their Super 8 appearance at the 2009 edition in England. West Indies, who are the most successful side of the T20 World Cup having won the titles in 2012 and 2016, thus cut a sorry figure, crashing out of the group stage with just one win from three matches. The Nicholas Pooran-led side who were without the likes of Shimron Hetmyer and Andre Russell lacked depth and looked out of sort, suffering to a 42-run defeat against Scotland.

Cricket-Bowlers beware! High totals loom in T20 World Cup

(Reuters) - If the bigger boundaries at most grounds have lifted the spirits of bowlers converging on Australia for the T20 World Cup, they do well to temper their optimism with a flood of runs predicted by some from the tournament's Super 12 stage.

West Indies - Shane Watson - Hardik Pandya can win India the T20 World Cup on his own, India's defensive bowling a concern, says Shane Watson - timesofindia.indiatimes.com - Australia - India - Pakistan

Hardik Pandya can win India the T20 World Cup on his own, India's defensive bowling a concern, says Shane Watson

Shane Watson, while tagging Hardik Pandya as a 'match winner' has said that India's star all-rounder, thanks to his rich vein of form, can take India to their second T20 World Cup title win. India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, under MS Dhoni's captaincy. The 8th edition of the ICC T20 World Cup is currently being played in Australia and the Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, will kick off their campaign on October 23 against arch-rivals Pakistan in the Super 12 stage. In the 7 completed editions of the tournament so far there have been as many as 6 different champions, with only the West Indies managing to clinch two titles - in 2012 and 2016. India have gone into the tournament without the services of two star players - pacer Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. In Bumrah's absence, the experienced Mohammed Shami will spearhead the Indian bowling attack. Apart from Shami, young Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Pandya are the weapons India will have in their pace armoury.

Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik can be accommodated in playing XI if Hardik Pandya is fifth bowler: Sunil Gavaskar

Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant in the playing XI by making Hardik Pandya the fifth bowling option in the upcoming T20 World Cup. The Rohit Sharma-led side, who will open their campaign against Pakistan in Melbourne on Sunday, have two wicketkeeper-batter options in Karthik and Pant, both of them vying for a spot in the XI. As the India think-tank ponders over its team combination ahead of the Pakistan clash, the legendary 73-year-old feels both could be accommodated. “It's just that maybe, if they decide to go with six bowlers, with Hardik Pandya being the sixth bowler, then he (Pant) may not be able to find a place," Gavaskar said on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Live'.

Shaheen Afridi and Lockie Ferguson lead five bowlers who can spell doom for batters at T20 World Cup

The famous punch line “Pace is Pace Yaar” was born after Wahab's over and its loose English translation would mean real pace is the real deal. As we move towards the main round of T20 World Cup at the business end of the Australian winter, pace will rule the roost; although on slightly slower tracks, fuller lengths will be equally important. While spinners are expected to play a key role on the Australian tracks despite the soggy weather, those with scary pace will provide an x-factor as there would still be enough bounce. The PTI looks at five bowlers, who have the ability to make a difference for their respective teams. With no Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian line-up, the ‘Men In Blue' are missing a trick.
